I read a story--an atmospheric little piece except for one glaring error. It cannot, due to canon events, be set earlier than 2001. 2000 at the absolute outside. One of the characters is a 79-year old woman. Okay, even being extremely charitable and setting the story in 2000, her DOB would be 1921.

And why am I making this point?

Because, the writer tells us, this elderly woman has led a very hard life--she survived the Depression and lost her father in the first World War.

In other words, her father died about three years before she was born. *head-desk*

Massive anachronism really kills a mood....

*snerk*

Perhaps the author is hoping very hard that most of the readers don't know their history.

Or, more likely, they don't.

Of course, if someone called moi on a point like that, I'd look them in the eye (metaphorically speaking), and say that either the old lady was lying about her age, or the narrator flunked his history class. (And then I'd go back and edit the freaking thing.) The heck of it is, the story has been up for more than a year, has quite a few reviews, and no one else has mentioned it. Sad state of affairs....

*nods* I say it's the former... and until you came along, she was right.

Also? My mom has a t-shirt with a design similar to your icon. ^^

Yup, shamelessly snagged from Northern Sun's online catalogue and painstakingly tinted pink. I'm too cheap/poor/flat-broke to actually buy the tee shirt, although I like a lot of their designs.

That's http://www.northernsun.com/n/s/index.html?id=kwQLKwy9

Okay, I can do it too--having just posted something where a character is described as wearing her hair like Princess Diana...except that when I scrutinize the relative dates, Di was still teaching nursery school at the time the action would've happened. Eh, I hope no one notices!
