Picking nits....

I read a story--an atmospheric little piece except for one glaring error. It cannot, due to canon events, be set earlier than 2001. 2000 at the absolute outside. One of the characters is a 79-year old woman. Okay, even being extremely charitable and setting the story in 2000, her DOB would be 1921.
And why am I making this point?
Because, the writer tells us, this elderly woman has led a very hard life--she survived the Depression and lost her father in the first World War.
In other words, her father died about three years before she was born. *head-desk*
Massive anachronism really kills a mood....

Or, more likely, they don't.
