Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] ruric, my dear---

Today's horoscope:
Virgo (8/23-9/22)
Relax, today, and just enjoy the fruits of your labor. All your hard work has paid off -- you're a little bit higher up that mountain of accomplishments, and your position provides you with one heck of a view! It's a wonderful day for people watching, so try to get out and about. Grab a corner table at the coffee shop and nurse your drink for a while as you watch all the different people come and go. Your eye for detail will be entertained by the diversity you encounter. It will be a quiet day.

Here's to a five-star birthday and a mellow year!

Hoping that your special day is fabulous!! As I've gotten older, I've lowered my expectations for birthdays. The limo never showed up to whisk me away for a day of magical surprises---so I now try and make it festive for myself. :) Mine is on Saturday....

That reminds me of a verse by Dorothy Parker:

Why is it no one ever sent me yet
One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get
One perfect rose.

With regard to b-days, I ALWAYS take the day off, if only to have THAT to look forward to. (With the storms in 2004, Mother Nature gave me the whole week off, which was lovely....)

Jeez, *My* favorite Dorothy Parker is:

Razors pain you, Rivers are damp.
Acids stain you, And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful, Nooses give,
Gas smells awful, You might as well live.

::grin::

Well, I, for one, amd glad you're still living, and can celebrate this special day (you're *how* old?).

Bappy Hirthday!

Three years younger than you, dear.

In youth, it was a way I had
To do my best to please,
And change, with every passing lad,
To suit his theories.

But now I know the things I know,
And do the things I do;
And if you do not like me so,
To hell, my love, with you!
"Indian Summer" -- Dorothy Parker

(I once did a paper on Parker.)
