Eat your heart out, Marlin Perkins!

I was half right---we did dine at Cracker Barrel, but that was after
missybrat took me to the zoo*. And it was great fun.
There were jaguars from South America---much too pretty to be anyone's coat!---coatimundi, macaws and all manner of monkeys. We watched them feed the gators---"They're getting their vitamins," announced the zoo keeper, "to give them strong scales and shiny white teeth." (Me, to Mb, "What, they don't go in there everyday and brush their teeth? Disgraceful!")
There was an amusing moment when we visited with one of the macaws for a couple minutes, then turned to go. "Hello!" he called. We went back, and he did it again. What a clever bird---he's figured out how to get the humans to pay more attention to him!
The Australian exhibit boasts roos and emus, and other critters from Down Under, but since it's conspicuous by its absense, if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to sponsor a wombat. *smirk*
Someone's phone sounded as we were going through one of the aviaries---it was one of those very ubiquitous ringtones---Mb reached for hers out of reflex. It wasn't hers, which set off a round of jokes about the mating call of the generic cellphone bird.
The giraffes were nowhere to be seen, but there were three mud-encrusted rhinoceri who were trudging around their enclosure, practically begging to be hosed down.
The best part, though, came when we passed an enclosure with several tortoises in it. One of them was over in a corner, the other two were right up against the fence---how can I say this delicately? Exhibitionism in the exhibit? Making the beast with two backs? The guy who was behind up with his kids hustled them past quickly, as Mb and I snickered.
We ended up at Cracker Barrel, as advertised. I've never had a bad meal there, and tonight I had the Coca-cola cake, which is decadent and sublime. Right now, I'm full and happy.
Hope your weekend is going well!

Now you and I will have to wait until next September for more birthday surprises.

I'm glad you had a great birthday. Maybe some time in the next 365 days, I'll mail the card I got for you! (And didn't mail because for some reason I was thinking it was NEXT Saturday, my bad.)
