vanillafluffy: (One call too many)

Yesterday, Wednesday, I slept until nearly 1 PM, which is late even for me. My well-laid plans overslept, so to speak. Did nothing constructive whatsoever.

Today, slept til going on noon (Better!) and made excellent progress in my kitchen. Got the counter cleared off and the kink SINK emptied. (I don't have a plumbing fetish, honestly I don't!) Scratched the surface of inventorying my pantry---I have lots of rice, couscous, orzo and various pasta. That much I do know. Oh, and I submitted my application for unemployment benefits---on line! They'll let me know within seven days what my eligibility is. *crosses toes* (Easier to type that way.)

I got flamboyant with the turkey I had (1 pound ground turkey, $1.19 @ Aldi's) and made meatballs, which turned out nom nom nom yummy. Dumped the ground turkey in a pyrex bowl, mashed it down and seasoned liberally with ground sage. Estimate, about a tablespoon. I lightly beat an egg, poured that over the turkey and glopped it all together with a fork. I smushed up some bread cubes from a box of stuffing mix (Best by 2007) to get 1/2 cup of crumbs and blended those in. Once it reached a texture that wasn't too gross, I kneaded it by hand for a few minutes. Heated a cast-iron skillet, added enough vegetable oil to barely cover the bottom, and shaped the mixture into balls with the help of a soup spoon. Got about 2 dozen and stir-fried those puppies until they had a nice tan. And they were fabuloso! (I put half of them up for tomorrow---brunch is going to be savory.)

I was absolutely delighted to get two back-to-back eps of SPN, especially those two eps. Dean as a Suit makes me squee, as does Sam in that big yellow polo and khakis. Okay, so I'm easily amused. But the iconic moment (see above) may be my favorite of the whole series, and it's especially timely for me right now. As for the second ep, well, I used to LARP, so that whole scene had me in stitches. Plus the bit about fangirls. And the Look in Castiel's eyes when he explained to Dean about the Archangel. Love, love, love!

Then, of course, the penultimate ep of Royal Pains. They're saying season finale rather than series finale, though, so I *do* have hope it'll be back.

My direct deposit will be in tomorrow, so I plan to pick up more turkey this weekend---such a deal! and I am going to try to get back into the habit of cooking instead of living on sandwiches, canned soups and rotisserie chicken (which isn't bad, it just isn't in my budget).

I haven't tried walking yet, but that's because it's still too freaking hot. I had to take a cold shower, and it IS true summer, because after the first 10 seconds or so, it was, "Is this as cold as it gets?!"

I probably shouldn't tell you just how cold and gloomy San Francisco was today. I just couldn't live with that heat and humidity. I was talking to a gal from Houston who's visiting in October and I told her she might our heatwave...and she laughed at me, as well she should have.

There are times I think I hear myself sizzling...I may become history's first-ever case of a human being spontaneously combusting into a bag of pork rinds!

As soon as we return from my daughter's house, I will walk with you- we could go over by Cocoa High and walk the track. My gimp leg should be totally healed by then...right now it's all I can do to get down to the mailbox and back!
We return on Sept 5th in late afternoon so let's plan on starting the following week--even if we both get jobs, we can do it after work. It's easier with a buddy.

A scenic option is the trail around Clearlake. It goes starts at BCC, goes through the woods to Travis Park, back to BCC, and what's nice is, the woodsy part has shade. It also has a little mildly hilly terrain for variety.'Trail' makes it sound more rustic than it is---it's concrete through BCC and asphalt in the woods.

Or we could meet at the library and stroll down River Rd.

Just offering suggestions, not nixing yours!

It's all good! As long as I am able to walk properly again, I don't care where it is.

BTW- You are up awful early!!
I'd like to go to aforementioned Chinese buffet sometime when we are both back in the green!

I was up for a while and went back to bed because I am of an age where 4 hours sleep just doesn't cut it.

The Chinese buffet is actually very affordable---Kat and I were there for lunch the other day, and it was barely $15 for both of us.

Right now the only way I can do affordable is if it's free- ha ha
I won't be going out at all until I have a job under my belt.

Got my toes crossed too for your unemployment benefits. And your turkey meatballs sound delicious!

The long sleeping is probably both resetting your internal clock to normal time and recovering from the stress of the past few months. It'll even out soon.

I've been getting up at 6:30 to make breakfast and see the boy off to school (he started college this week). The Padre let me set my work schedule to come to work at 9 starting next week, so the grand plan is to get up, get Corgikid out the door and then do some exercises before going to work.

I need to figure out how to gently push my clock back a few hours. This sleep-til-noon thing is not gonna cut it when I find a real job.

Go to bed just a little bit earlier every night, say 20 minutes or so. We used to do that at the end of summer when the kid was little, and it always worked.

I made the trek to Aldi today (it's 90 miles round trip for me) and did a major stock up, then hit Big Lots on the way home. Among other things, Aldi is great for wheat-free cereal for Corgiguy and I can get hypoallergenic soap and detergent for him at BL.

I'll give the 20 minute trick a try and see how it goes. I just got back from Aldi's---still can't get over how shiny it is. And since I was alone and could wander, I found even more good stuff. Not only do they have sliced cheese, they have SMOKED sliced cheese. (I have a weakness for gruyere, but smoked swiss and smoked cheddar are just as good.) I got a couple cans of soup to try---the grilled chicken you touted, and the chicken corn chowder. Just one can of each---I don't need to live on it for dinner any more, yay!

Ooh, I got some of that cheese too! I about danced in the aisle when I saw it -- the mister loves smoked cheese. And I bought a pack of salami and little canned ham along with a roll of ground turkey.

I saw the salami, but decided against it for the salt and fat content. Last November, the Merritt Island store, which was the first Aldi's I encountered, had some amazing deals on hams and whole turkeys---I'm hoping history will repeat itself.
