Was up just after ten this morning---I am managing to wake earlier and earlier, go me! Tomorrow will be even better, albeit with the help of an alarm clock...

First thing I did was check email, then called GK, who was at Barnes & Noble with Kat and the Things. It was one of those conversations where she was talking to me, talking to the kids, looking at stuff they were showing her while I was reading her a list of the current-run movies at Merritt Square. Nothing we both want to see; the only ones I had any interest in are things she's already seen. She gets to a heckuva lot more films than I do!

Was barely off the phone with her than AI called...we didn't have a chance to talk yesterday, what with me dashing off to the reunion. Had a nice chat about the Full Moon Ball (3rd annual), and I'm so glad to know that this year I won't have to beg, borrow or outright steal a day off to attend. We had tentative plans to visit the nearest Lush store (at OIA---and contrary to the name, it doesn't sell booze---it's fabulous bath products) on my birthday, in lieu of a birthday dinner. Told her because of the job situation, finances are dicey, and she said no, I may get two products as my gift from her, so yay, Lushness! I've been pouring over the catalog she gave me in June---along with a cake of Lush shampoo---trying to decide, but I think I'm going to have to go in there and sniff around.

Created a playlist---it's time to burn a new CD for the car---and added to a WIP. Snacked. Called GK back late afternoonish since I hadn't heard back about possible thrifting. She was at the motel and was able to talk without multitasking...heard about her plans to pay off the loan on Kat's van and swap it for hers. Kat's has lower milage and is a couple years newer, and that way Kat won't have to make payments and will have more money for medications or whatever. Also broke the news that I'm unemployed---gave her the details, but she hasn't come up with a plan to rescue me yet. (She's like that.) Only plan is for me to show up at Kat's tomorrow morning at 9:30 and we're going to hit the mall when they open at 10 and look for a dress for Kat to wear to the wedding. Oh, and I agreed to help her lay tile (the peel and stick kind) in one of Kat's spare rooms....

Shortly after that came a knock at the door, and [livejournal.com profile] missybrat came by with the bottle of Diet (caffeine free!) A&W root beer that got left behind in her car on Friday.

The 6:00 WNTW was a rerun I've seen at least four times, so I divided my attention between that and more closet excavating...I never fail to unearth something I've completely forgotten, in this case a drop-dead leopard skirt. I must've picked it up early on in my Goodwill pillaging when I was less discriminating---it couldn't've fit, but it does now! Get ready...it's knee-length leopard print velvet with a black beaded fringe. Oh-la-la!

Oh, and I have some great short strands of rocks GK gave me---two different shapes of turquoise, some snowflake jasper, two of the same type rock in different shapes that I'm not certain of, and some lovely white shell cones. Told AI I might make some earrings for the craft table at the Full Moon Ball with little cards telling about the stones.

Hasta banana!

You've been a busy bee! My day was pretty boring compared to yours--got up and hit Wal-Mart for some laundry soap (happened to be on sale) as well as some travel size shampoo and hair spray for trip to NY. Came home and did several loads of laundry and folded it all.
Had a short nap around 4:30 and then made my famous baked beans for dinner alongside some hot dogs and toasted buns. Have been on job link off and on all day - sent out a couple of resumes. Now ready to clean up the kitchen and call it a night pretty soon. I am one of those who can't go to bed with dishes in the sink so must load dishwasher prior to nodding off...

I'm still working on the whole empty-sink-at-bedtime routine...I fall prey to the "It's just a couple things!" trap, and the next thing I know, I've run out of forks and I'm down to mixing bowls.

Once you get used to leaving an empty sink at bedtime, you'll never turn back! It's nice to wake up in the morning and have nothing that has to be cleaned up. It didn't always work when the children were small but now it's mostly just the 2 of us.

I'll be checking your post from (hopefully) cooler upstate NY. If I can sneak some kind of surprise for you in my suitcase, I will. I know you are from NY so name your poison if there's anything special you'd like for a belated bday gift.

GK was telling me how it was 65F last week where she lives in MA, so upstate ought to be comfortable. Whereabouts will you be? Are we talking about souvenir stands or thrifting/antiquing? Enquiring minds want to know!

Well, I know I can't afford any antiquing - thrifting, perhaps.
We will be in Saratoga Springs, near Albany. I don't know if they have souvenir stands- I guess they would since they have the horsetrack and all...
Perhaps I will just use my own intuition for a surprise.

Horsie? My inner ten-year old just perked up amazingly. In some recess of my soul, I am still a horse-mad child.

I wrote this (http://vanillafluffy.livejournal.com/66615.html) essay a couple years ago, and it's still true. Anything horse-related would be lovely, even more so if it was something useful. (My mother's motto was, "Never give people gifts they'll have to dust.")

Yah! for fabulous closet finds! I have a couple of summer blouses that need minor alteration, so Sunday when Miss V. and I went to Hancock Fabric, I picked up the notions needed to do that.

It occurred to me one day not long ago that I immediately put down what I'm doing and sew for anyone who asks me but always put off fixing things for myself. As a result, I have a lot of things that fit but don't get worn because they need to be taken up or a strategic snap added. So I'm fixing that.

Oh, I took a page out of your cookbook and made turkey meatballs from a recipe in that 1,000 Lowfat Recipes cookbook and served it up with a homemade marinara-mushroom sauce on wheat-free rotini. It was delicious, and a pound of that ground turkey goes a long way.

Funny you should say that---I spent an hour in front of the TV this evening sewing up my black half-slip. It's the only half-slip I have, I've probably had it for 10 years. The elastic stretched out a few years ago, and in order to be able to keep wearing it (because a new one would run me $12 or so), I grabbed a strip of elastic, cut it to a length that would go around my waist and stretch enough to pull down over my hips. I rolled the waistband down and safety-pinned it in place. Yes, I know, tacky as hell but it got the job done. It's been that way for...I'd guess going on a year. I've worn it, washed it, rolled my eyes when I "noticed" the half-assed mending...well, this evening, I actually parked myself on the bed for an hour with needle and thread and stitched down the rolled-over waistband. (The safety pins were rusting, that's how long they were in!) Because I'll be shopping tomorrow, and at some point this week, getting my dress for the wedding altered, and I really couldn't stand to see the horrified look on GK's face at the sight of that improvised repair. But hey, I figure I'm still ahead of a few people I know, who either couldn't produce a needle and thread to save their life, or wouldn't know what to do with it if they did.

I've got a pound of turkey thawed that I need to use tomorrow. I might do more meatballs, and I have all kinds of pasta to pair them with....

I can top the safety pin story--my daughter went to Catholic school and had to wear uniforms. I can't sew so her hems got stapled when they started to come out!! Poor kid- she used to say the staples scratched her legs. :)

I have 1/2 a bag of LUSH stuff in my bathroom right now. It's a wonderful store. The bath bombs are the best!!!! Lesigh. Bath and bomb should not be put in the same sentence let alone be called a product! LOL! I did that evening in for 2 or something like that. (You and your friend get facials, etc.)

I'm really looking forward to the "girls' night" in Tampa...it'll give me a better idea of how some of the products perform before my shopping spree. I need to find my rollers and remember to pack them so I can set my hair for the party on Saturday. (I hope they get on the ball with that---if people don't get invited soon, they might make other plans!)
