This week has gone by with super-sonic speed. Let me take a deep breath and catch up. I spent more of Tuesday with GK and Kat, running around on various errands. To begin with, I met them at Kat's and we went to the mall to shop for an outfit for her (Kat) to wear to the wedding. The found a very nice black and grey suit ($139), and I found two lovely things on the clearance rack, a green top with rickrack at the neckline, and a great little jersey knit dress in shades of plum and pink---a riotous mod floral print---$30 for BOTH pieces, thank you very much.
Then GK and I joined Kat for an appt with her neurologist---found out she was supposed to be using a patch that he gave her last month, but she brought it home, put it down and forgot it. So, since I'm the one who's local, I'm going to be supervising her meds---the doc says the patch may help with her cognative functions, but she has to wear it consistantly for at least a week before we can expect any improvement.
From there, we visited Merritt Island Goodwill, where GK and I played "Let's Make a Deal", namely that she'd pick up the tab for my loot if I'd watch Thing 1 and Thing 2 for her while she had lunch with a friend on Wednesday. Yes, yes, yes! We also found a snazzy RED suit for Kat to wear at the wedding (colors and red, white and black), $20.
Ended up back at her hotel schmoozing til dinner time, when I got invited to join them at the Chinese Buffet---the one on the Island that regularly has salmon and duck on the evening menu.
Wednesday, I spent 3 hours in the hotel room with the Things, who were engaged with various electronic devices---I watched two hours of What Not to Wear and an hour of Overhaulin' before GK got back, then I came home and devoted a few hours to a WIP.
Thursday...was a sleeper. Talked to GK on the phone, they had stuff going on, so I *thought* it was going to be a quiet evening, but NO.
missybrat called me around 7PM and announced a kidnapping. She and her SO took me to the Chinese Buffet in Melbourne (mere blocks from my former place of work), where I gorged on still more salmon---second time this week, woohoo!---and visited her place (Now I know how to get there!)---and wrapped it up with a trip to WalMart. I got in late enough that I *still* haven't seen the season finale of Royal Pains.
Today,
missybrat and I met GK and company at the Rockledge Goodwill---I found the greatest little pink jacket---trapeze style with two buttons at the collar, VERY Jackie O---I *must* find a little pillbox hat to go with it, it's perfect with the Macys dress and the shoes I found at WalMart.
Got GK to pin the dress I'm modifying for the wedding---never mind the vision I had of the two of us over at Kat's spending a quiet hour or two getting it DONE. Oh hell no---the Things are allergic to Kat's cats, and so doesn't trust them alone at the motel for any length of time, so I went over there after the Goodwill trip with my sewing box and she pinned it in place in eight minutes flat, because then they had to run out for another doctor visit.
Sometime soon, I need to take te dress over to Kat's and wrestle with it and her sewing machine for an afternoon. I want to make certain it's exactly right, because once I cut it, that's all she wrote.... GK also left my birthdaypresident present, which will come in handy. Lawn mowing? Haircut? Remains to be seen....
Anyway, tonight is movie night at church---yay, pizza!---and then I'll go over to Kat's, call GK to meet me there, and we'll review Kat's meds so I'll know what's what.
GK and company go home tomorrow. I love her, but wow, trying to keep up with her can be exhausting!

Date: 2009-08-28 09:13 pm (UTC)One of those day of the week sectioned medicine boxes always looks like a good idea, but they really work only for someone who can keep up with what day it is. I hope Kat's not that far gone.
Medication management and forgetting to eat were the main reasons why we moved Mom into assisted living in 1997. She did well there for a long time, probably because she was getting her medication and meals done properly.

Date: 2009-08-29 03:10 am (UTC)We're really hoping the patches will help, but tonight we premeasured a week's doses and I'll go over at least once a week to check in on her. And call regularly as well. She's going to sign a waiver at her doctor's so they'll be able to keep me in the loop without violating HIPPA regs.
And so it goes....

Date: 2009-08-28 09:33 pm (UTC)It was a busy week by the sound of, and exhausting.... But the Goodwill finds sound super, and hey, any week that has salmon in it, twice, is a pretty good week. :D

Date: 2009-08-29 03:13 am (UTC)Goodwill was good, and next weekend ought to be a blast. We'll see how it goes.
Meds, artical I read, fun stuff...
Date: 2009-08-30 12:14 pm (UTC)I read an articale just recently that said something about seniors needing to play the Wii. In particular it was the Wii tennis, bowling, and some other "sport" type game. It said that a research study was done and those seniors that played the Wii vs those that did not play it were apt to remember more and (can't remember the exact name) but some function was better in them as well. Has K thought of maybe getting her mom one? (Try anything once.)
Next weekend should be a blast. As I said, I chose a hotel a little futher (than right across the street from the venue) because it was a newer hotel. (Not the @ssh@ts that wanted to charge me $25.00 for my service animal.) It was the same hotel chain that I reserved with, just an older hotel. Plus I talked to the lady at the front desk and she said they had no problems with the service animal being with us and would actually welcome her. S/O just needs to make sure he brings her paper work with her. Check in time is 1:00pm, (versus the normal 3:00pm check in time with most hotels), so we should have plenty of time for swim and snacks. (We're bringing a cooler of snacks and soda for us to enjoy in the room. Me and S/O like a little different stuff than what you can normally buy in a
c-store.) I.E. Roasted seaweed, roasted sugar snap peas, rice crackers, etc. You know the "asian market" stuff. Plus we will have stuff for you to munch on and drink while we are lounging. I still have to figure out what I'm wearing. I might surprise everyone and wear something that is so "unbrat" like that it will shock you and S/O. LOL! B and me and mom went to do a little running around after we dropped you off and I was made to try on things that I just looked at and raised the eyebrows and (sigh) "All right. I'll try it." Guess what... I liked it! It looked good! Pants that fit and the top that is just so not me! LOL!
Have a great Sunday! We'll get ahold of you this week and plan everything else that needs to be planned.

Girls just wanna have fun
Date: 2009-08-30 02:29 pm (UTC)She's taking six different meds for cancer and heart-related stuff, two kinds of vitamins, a blood thinner and the neurology patch. Every day. *sighs*
The hotel should be awesome. I'm looking forward to a swim and playing with the Lush stuff after the concert. Fun, fun, fun!
That's the funny thing about clothes. Sometimes the stuff that looks OH SO CUTE on the hanger just doesn't work when you put it on, and some of the stuff that looks boooring on the hangers turns out to be adorable when you actually try it on. I was looking at an argyle sweater the other day at Goodwill, and I thought it would be great, but I tried it on and it ended up being assymetric and DID NOT WORK. One thing I have learned: MUST TRY ON.
Re: Girls just wanna have fun
Date: 2009-08-30 06:21 pm (UTC)Speaking of articals that I have read, last night, before bed, I read that women with 10-20 "extra" pounds out live thier skinnier friends by 6 years. Hmmmm..... I should be good for a few extra years then! LOL! I can't wait to start going to the Health Plex with my mom. *insert sigh here* I love the fact that I will be able to go swimming no matter what the weather is like outside. And use a jacuzzi, and a sauna, and a walking track, and and and..:)
Lush stuff is going to be fun. I have to look up on-line to find out about the other little thingies that are in the bag. I forgot when to use them and in what order. (Sigh) I thought that I had a paper saying who what when and stuff.. but I dont.
