There's something resembling good news. I talked to GK a little bit ago, and per her, apparently Kat wasn't admitted last night. Last night I talked to her around 9PM, when Kat was still at the hospital---GK *thought* she was going to be admitted. In the end, though, she was given an IV, rehydrated and was released. According to the 3rd-hand news I have, she's more lucid and WILL be flying home as scheduled tomorrow.

Thanks for all your good thoughts, I'm sure they helped.

Oh, that's a relief. The thought of her in a hospital, and possibly dying there, so far from home was really awful.

I couldn't agree more. Granted her brother and mother are there, but her doctor is here, as am I, her oldest son and her cats. She's getting hospice care visits and Meals on Wheels. This is where her support system is, and (although I know this sounds awful!) the plot where she'll rest with her late husband.

That support system and the familiarity of being in her own home will comfort her and help keep her oriented.

As well as eliminating miscommunications like "She's in the hospital" when she's not and not hearing anything for 24 hours or more. (When I didn't hear back from GK, I presumed the last info I had was good and she was STILL in the hospital.) Very wearing on the nerves!

Hands tissues. Sits down. Tilts head to one side and pats shoulder.

It would have been nice to know all that BEFORE I took a four-hour "nap"---I was up til 6AM this morning, and now I'm trying to wake up enough to go hit WalMart.

That's good to hear. I'm glad for both your sakes that she's coming home.

Thanks. I spent about 30 hours inwardly convinced that I'd never see her again, now I have a second chance....

ah, but that's good news, given the circumstances! Fingers crossed she'll arrive safely-

I haven't heard anything to the contrary, so I'm going to conclude that she did. I'll ring over there tomorrow after church to touch base and plan the logistics of her Monday doctor visit....

I've heard, many times, that dehydration can cause fatigue, headache, disorientation and lots of other issues. I hope that was the majority of Kat's problem and she'll be okay now. :-)

I'm sure it was a contyributing factor, although she has been diagnosed with moderate dementia, which is causing things like memory loss and aphasia. My plan calls for stocking her up with Gatorade to keep her electrolytes up in addition to hydrating her.
