OMG, New Year's Eve! I can't think of the last time I've been so eager to ring down the curtain on a particular year.

"I'ma push old father 2009 down on the front lawn as the reaper makes for him, and sit on his legs to make sure that skinny sumbeeyotch with the scythe actually gets the job done. Then I'ma cut off his head and his right hand and take out his heart and bury him face down at a crossroads with a stake through his heart. Then I'm gonna re-route a stream to pass over his gravesite so he's always beneath running water. I want to encase this decade's final resting place in cement, inside which I'll put a nuclear waste container. I want to invent universally understood pictographs to ensure that nobody ever, ever, ever opens that vault too. I want 2009 to be dubbed "the year we don't speak of" for all time, like that Egyptian pharaoh that everybody got so mad at that they went in after they'd killed him and hacked up any statue bearing his likeness and chiseled out any mention of his name ANYWHERE. That. I am that level of OVER IT about 2009." (from [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes by way of [livejournal.com profile] dimethirwen)

But not to sound like too much of a negative Nancy, I've been having tons of fun playing with this little game that [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal alerted me to:

Think of a famous person, then answer 20 questions and see if the genie can deduce your person. It's surprisingly good at it! (And yes, it *did* eventually get JDM.)

Had a final spasm of creative energy last night and coughed up a 500 word coda to My Bloody Valentine. That gives me a total of 19 stories posted at the Pit of Voles this year (not including last year's Yuletide, or this one). Maybe I can come up with one more just to get it up to a nice, round number....

I'm disappointed to hear that Tavern on the Green is closing. Add that to the list of NY landmarks I've missed out on: CBGBs, Studio 54---oh well, I probably couldn't afford a sandwich there, let alone dinner.

Speaking of which, I've got some pork chops, sauerkraut and some black-eyed peas for dinner tomorrow. Luck, damn it!

Have a great 2010, y'all!

Here's to seeing the back of 2009, and may we all have a vastly improved 2010, both emotionally and financially! *hugs*

I'll drink to that! Tonight, I'm planning to feast on some Aldi's frozen lasagna (Xmas gift from a generous friend), paired with some donated green beans and followed up with chocolate pudding.

At some point in the not-too-far-distant future, I need to go through my cabinets and try to organize my canned goods, of which I have Quite A Lot.

Your dinner sounds very yummy. I worked late and had Aldi chicken egg rolls, which are even better than the restaurant kind, and two rum and cokes.

After going to Aldi two days ago, I have the overflow canned goods on a shelf in the laundry room. At the rate prices keep going up at Kroger, it's a worthwhile investment. :D

Thank you for jump-starting my brain with the phrase "shelf in the laundry room". Back in my daddy's day, we kept the canned surplus in a cupboard he built out in the garage, adjacent to the laundry area. If I clean off those shelves, it should offer ample space to house a couple dozen cans of whatever's on sale.

I used to keep most of our canned goods in the laundry room, and then we got Zippy the Wonder Cat, who liked to climb and push things off. He's too hefty now in his middle age to be so rambunctious, so I think the chili beans and mandarin oranges are safe. :D

We had Aldi's chicken egg rolls as well this evening- they went well with the homemade sesame chicken that I cooked - along with Basmati rice. A fine farewell to 2009 dinner. Washed it down with an Italian Peroni Beer...adios 09.
Tomorrow will be BBQ ribs, collard greens, black eyed peas, homemade macaroni and cheese and cornbread--HELLO 2010!

** I told another person today that if 2010 starts out anything like 2009 did, I'll be the first one to go ahead and jump!

I had my mac-n-cheese fix yesterday, but I've got a stockpile of more in the pantry. I've got to try those eggrolls, apparently everybody loves them!

The mac and cheese I make is my grandmother's recipe- you make an actual macaroni and cheese casserole and bake it in the oven- I use grated sharp cheddar. It's so good that I can eat it cold when it's left over! The top bakes all crunchy--yum.

Oooh, that does sound good! Of course, I'm a sucker for anything with a ton o'cheese. I make the boxed stuff, NOT according to directions, and I always throw in about a half cup of REAL cheese.

2009 wasn't too bad for me (2007 was the worst - my dad died, so everything since then has to be a little uphill anyway) but it sounds like it's been the worst in a long time for an awful lot of friends. I'm happy to see the back of it and bury it deep for all y'all's sakes.

I hope 2010 is a much better year for everyone. Enjoy those blackeyed peas - I've got mine too! (And eggnog. Yum)

(And thanks for the game link - it guess Benton Fraser from DueSouth with not a whole lot of clues. Off to play some more....)

I tried the Genie 3 times and beat him each time. My choices were Jarod (The Pretender), George Francisco (Alien Nation) and Viktor (Dollhouse). Hee!

Heh! I'm hoping like hell it doesn't turn out to be the truth, but I just *had* to use it. Credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] deadflowers5 if you'd care to snag it.
