vanillafluffy: (Bobby heartbreak)

My poor Bobby! You know denial isn't just a river in Egypt, right? But I can't blame you, what with Karen humming in the kitchen and baking pies and cleaning and wanting you to have peace---I wanted to hate her, really I did, but I couldn't, because she clearly loved you and of course she was the love of your life! "He's not the mild-mannered scrap dealer I married." Picturing THAT Bobby just tears me up. And the end...oh, Bobby! It's official, you are now as emotionally damaged as any Winchester.

Oh show, you have killed me!

That one killed me too. Bobby looked so old and bereft when he was talking Dean out of shooting her. He is easily as broken as the boys, which he's been managing to hide for a long time.

One of those culture-blind asses over at TWOP complained that the episode was a waste of time because if Death had a message for Bobby, he could have just delivered it in person. That completely missed the point: Death chose the method of delivery to weaken Bobby's position in the boys' lives. Because the whole town was involved, they learned that ever-competent and crafty Bobby is perceived as the town drunk. And although the Dean and Bobby firefight with the zombies was fabulously shot and staged, it pointed out that Bobby, who hasn't made much of a big deal about being in the wheelchair, is now truly handicapped in a fight.

There's a reason I stay away from TWOP. Idjits.

Perception isn't necessarily reality, although Bobby DID do some heavy-duty boozing at one point---remember all the bottles on his desk in "Lazarus Rising"?

At a guess, he staged a "drunken accident" the first time he killed Karen. As far as we know, he didn't do time for it, but in a small town, everyone would know. (Although I was of the impression Sioux Falls is actually a city, not a one-horse "podunk" town.)

We don't know how he explained Meg's death in season 1---we know he called the authorities and we know from her spirit's comment during the rising of the witnesses that her body was recovered---so that's another case of questionable goings-on out at Singer Salvage and Shooting Gallery. Ever notice there are never any customers and he doesn't seem to have trouble taking off whenever he wants?

Another thing that killed me was the standoff with Bobby holding a gun on the boys. It really, really makes me wonder how at fault John was the time Bobby pulled a shotgun on him. We don't know the whole story about that, either....
