Art Linkletter
1912 - 2010

This startled me because I had no idea Art was still alive. 97? Good heavens. I remember his show from the 60s---my mom watched it, and I remember her talking about his daughter's death, alledgedly while on LSD. Sad, but as a child, that didn't really mean much to me. He was just a funny man who talked to ordinary kids, which I liked. He really seemed to connect with them.

Good-bye, Mr. Linkletter.

I also didn't know he was still around, so this surprises me, too. I well remember those shows!

That was so long ago it was black and white (at least our TV was)--!

So was ours. So was everybody's, I think. Even the reruns are in black and white.

We also had it on the radio sometimes. Weekend mornings, I think.

I'm sure it was just replays of the sound track of the TV show. And they just showed colour clips of the TV show on the bit on the evening news, so there you go. Maybe it was just the TV. :)

Awwwwww! I'm shocked that he was still around. And it's sad that for a lot of people, the only reason they know his name is the story about his daughter, which while tragic in its own right then became the "Reefer Madness" of the LSD generation.

Yeah, it put me off acid for a long, long time...and because of it I took precautions, made sure I had someone straight around. It was...interesting.

I had the book "Kids Say The Darndest Things" when I was growing up. Read and re-read it. They don't make 'em like Art anymore.

Yeah, Art was quite a guy. The only other host of that era that I can think of who's still around is Jack LaLanne.

Wonder if he is still working out at age 96? He's been around forever!

Probably. Jack had open heart surgery last year and beforehand, he said, "I can't die! It would ruin my reputation!" Wow. The guy's twice my age and has an attitude I envy.
