Dennis Hopper
1936 -- 2010

He was a symbol of rebellious youth for a generation...and now he has succumbed to a disease of old men. His illness was widely publicized, but his passing is still a shock; truly, this bombshell heralds the mortality of that generation.

Peace, Dennis. You were a groovy guy.

The world will be a lot less weird without him, to be sure.

I didn't know he had prostate cancer. That sucks.

He was two years younger than my dad, a year younger than my mom.

It's been a weird week, that's for sure: first, the venerable Art Linkletter, then untimely young Gary Coleman, now Dennis, somewhere in the middle. I know they say celeb deaths run in threes, but this is quite a bizarre triad.

That he did. And he didn't take himself too seriously. I may rewatch "Flashback" this evening, where he's a 60's radical in the 80s...there was a wink to "Easy Rider", too.

He did better than his youthful antics suggested he would. I'll bet back in the 60's he never thought he'd see 70+---as well as still working as an actor! That's a successful life, IMO.

Naaah, that's okay. Rather you than Spiegel-online (more or less well sorted german news magazine).

Peace, Dennis. You were a groovy guy.
Yeah, I can only agree to that. :)

He was also a very gifted photographer. Back in the 1960s, he shot a series of portraits in black and white using natural available light that were some of the best photos I've ever seen.

Hmm...little-known facts about well-known people. I'll bet those appreciate, especially now. (Crass, I know, but that's the nature of the beast.)

That's gotta be one weird conversation in the elevator with Dennis, Gary Coleman and Art Linkletter.

I know, right? The finch dinner party is a picnic in comparison. Although at some point, I'd expect to hear, "What you talkin' about, Dennis?"
