Kripke and company practically beat my love for the show to death this season. I'm on the edge of being over it, although there are bunnies slinking around trying to lure me back in. But unless season 6 rocks my ass off, the end is in sight. I can tell, because when I look at my f'list, I have irritated little spasms of "Enough with all the SPN stories, where the hell is all the Justified fic?!" (I'm jonesing, dispite being on every Justified com I can find. It's averaging less than one fic a day. Not nearly enough!)

Show of hands---has anybody else on my f'list taken a shine to Justified? (And if not, WHY NOT?!)

Not me. I don't take to new shows all that well. I was on the verge of giving up SPN, and then I saw "Shadows", and John happened. I'm not so much a SPN girl as I am a John girl.

I totally agree. And there's been precious little John around these last few seasons, and far too much angst and bullshit. And that includes fandom BS---I've never really gotten into wincest, and now I'm gagging on angel!porn.

When it comes to new shows, I'm choosy. (I think.) Unfortunately, my kill rate for new shows is high, although less so than it used to be. If I like it, it'll be gone in a season or less, at least that's been my experience with Trauma, Jericho, The Forgotten, The Burning Zone, American Gothic, The Master, The Phoenix, Tales of the Gold Monkey, to name just a few. Justified is a modern-day western---no horses, but lots of brawls and bad guys---and so far, I haven't been disappointed by any of it.

Same with me. Any show I really like (with only a few exceptions) winds up lasting one season if I'm lucky, and I've even had a few yanked out from under me only 5 or 6 episodes in!

So I'm very, VERY cautious about what I watch for fear of getting attached. ;-)

The further away they went from season one and the family business, which included John, (and could easily have expanded to include Bobby) the less I liked it. Season 5 has been a killer on me. The whole angel/demon destiny/free will has just been wearing. Bah, Humbug, I say!!

I've found the same thing with a lot of new shows that I've tried to get into. Yes! The Burning Zone, and remember The Dead Zone, Brimstone, or Just Cause?

There were parts of the intervening seasons that I liked, but part of the trouble was continuity. So much of the so-called war took place off-screen, because of the budget, I presume, that it just seemed like a running gag---"The Seals are breaking/the Apocalypse is coming, but there's nothing we can do about it, so let's go after this monster!" Hey, if you don't care, I don't care....

Mmm...Brimstone. Also Profit, Kindred: the Embraced, Wildside!, and Chicago Hope.

Hell yeah - fell for Justified about 10 minutes into the first eppy.

Doesn't hurt that it has Timothy Olyphant and Walter Goggins and my goodness are they havign some fun with their roles. I'm thinking those boys know full well what subtext is. *G*

Yay, a fellow traveler! I missed the first ep, but heart good things...tuned in for week two and fell like a brick. Coms I've found so far are, harlancounty, justified_slash, as well as justifiedslash. (Also in my user info in case my mad html skillz have failed.)

It's so nice not to get squicked by subtext for a change. Boyd and Raylen are an awesome couple. THIS is my kind of angst!

Damn, this sounds fascinating! I'm going to have to catch up on Justified. :)

I still love SPN, but it's mainly for acting and to keep fretful watch over Bobby. "Swan Song" was completely underwhelming, and they really should have ended the season with the episode in which the Winchesters lost both Adam and Castiel because THAT was one hell of a cliffhanger.

We've been watching the reruns this summer, and suddenly realized the writing became even more derailed than usual about five shows out from the finale. I think that was when they started scrambling to rewrite after finding out the show had been renewed for another year, and the patchwork weakness really shows.

I remain convinced that if season 6 hadn't come about, that it would have ended with Dean saying yes to Michael and the ground swallowing both of them. Which would have tied up the original "Two brothers, one destiny" tagline. (And IMO, the cage in the Pit would've looked like the Impala, except there are no motels or rest stops in Hell.)

Justified appeals to me on a number of levels. It touts itself as a modern-day western, which is awesome. It's set in Kentucky, so there's a southern-fried atmosphere that I find comfortable, despite the fact that it's actually shot in California. The cast is 57 varieties of terrific, and not just for the pretty. The characters are solid and complex and fascinating---again, it's not just the pretty. It explores themes like, you can't go home again---but what if you have to? Can a leopard really change its spots? My own personal favorite character, Boyd Crowder is a racist bank robber in the first ep. He gets shot, has a road-to-Damascus moment and by the end of the season he's established a ministry and blows up meth labs in the Lord's name. I enjoy the challenge of writing spiritual themes, and Boyd promises to be tons of fun.

I like White Collar, although I've only written one fic for it. (Contrary to popular belief, I *can* be entertained by something without wanting to write fic for it.)

And if you liked Deadwood, you should like Justified. It's not quite as extravagantly profane, but the dialogue is still damn poetic.

Oh, and speaking of Deadwood, I recently heard (and squeed) that Ian McShane is going to be in Pirates of the Caribbeean 4. That ought to be fairly amazing!

Aside from one drabble that I wrote for MMOM before I'd ever actually seen an episode, I'm sort of trying to keep myself "pure" from writing White Collar so that I can plausibly write it for Come As You're Not. (But I may cheat with some comment fic today for hllangel)
