While the rest of the country shops (or prepares to shop), I've been out and back. My resources are exhausted, but I feel a warm glow of satisfaction. Mb very kindly got me a paper of my own yesterday, so that I could peruse the sale ads, which I did after the feast. I was *hoping* to find a full-size microwave: No such luck, the only ones in my price range were the same size as the dinky little thing I've got. (Yes, I know it was free, and free is good, but half my dishes don't fit in it!)

However, I *did* run across some 4GB flash drives on sale at Office Depot. I gave this some thought; I had a 2GB drive that's MIA, which does me no good, and this I could actually afford.

Came home, TRIED to sleep, couldn't. Sat up and reread the WalMart ads, and noticed they had the same flash drive going on sale at 5 AM...did I mention that the Office Depot drive was $1.01 cheaper? And that WalMart WILL match competitor's prices if you have the ad? So I took both ads and zoomed down the road---and may I just say the place is a freaking ZOO?!---ascertained that yes, they ARE the exact same item.

The very nice lady at the checkout didn't give me any trouble, didn't point out that Office Depot isn't even open at 3 AM, not even today---she just did a price override as she rang up my stuff, and I scampered home, where I'll try to sleep again in a little bit.

I have just about enough left to keep me in caffeine for the week, so I won't be hitting Office Depot for their $2.97 USB hub, alas, or grabbing a box of nutcracker ornaments at Pier One. New pillows at Macy's aren't happening either---although with the January white sales coming up, that's not too traumatic. Nope, I'm going to be spending today or tomorrow making turkey soup, as MB also kindly gave me the carcass of the 25 pound turkey. (I took one look at the mammoth thing and told her I didn't know Butterball farmed ostriches.) I have carrots, celery and onions, rice, and a stockpot that might actually be big enough if I do some judicious dismemberment.

Happy Black Friday, y'all!

I didn't know Butterball farmed ostriches.

Hehee! That was how I felt upon seeing those massive carcasses piled in the freezer case at Kroger the other day.

Great score on the jump drive. Remember just a few years ago when even a 2G drive was like $60?

No, at that point, I think I was still moving things back and forth on hard disks. I had no idea what a memory stick cost, and I'm not even sure if the computer I had at the time had a USB port. My 2GB was $10, and I considered that pretty reasonable. The "every day" price on today's score is $14.88 at Wally World, so I'm happy.

That's very reasonable. I paid $17 for a 4G early this year during a special promotion by St. P's office supplies vendor, and $29 last year for a four-port USB hub for the office computer at Office Depot.

Office Depot has 3 port hubs today for about $3, usually $6+. I'm sorry I'm so tight on cash, but even ^-and-change isn't that bad. (It's their house brand, but still, very affordable.)

No need to apologize, sweetie. Your income's so fixed it's damned near immovable. {{{hugs}}} You do such a great job of stretching a buck.

'Sorry' as in regretful, not apologetic. It would be nice to get it, especially at that price, but the regular price isn't so bad. *yawn* Got woke up on 4.5 hours of sleep by
Them, so I'm not sure how coherent I am....

*hugs back*

Maybe I shouldn't mention this, but Amazon has 4GB flash drives for less than $10. Even if you factor in shipping, it evens out because you're saving the gas and time to run to the store.

These were $6.99, so I'm happy. And the store is barely 2 miles each way, and there's no waiting for the mail carrier. (I'm still annoyed by the delay in shipping "Catch and Release".)

Speaking of Amazon, I'm thinking of combining the dregs of the gift certs with that last Visa gift card and snagging the DVD release of "Fantasia/Fantasia 2000". Still debating....

Oh, I hear ya. I love shopping online but sometimes it makes more sense to drive to the actual store.

And Fantasia is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies. :-)

There are some pieces of classical music that I can't hear without certain mental images flickering in my mind's eye: centaurs, pegasi, crocodiles and elephants....

That you should attach the USB drives to a keychain - if you have one over there. Or on a loop of string so that you can hang it somewhere you can see/get to it easily. I have done so with mine, so I do not have to turn my backpack upside down when I need it.
Just a thought...

These don't have any loops to attach anything to, or I would. They're just little black rectangles.

Damnation. Evil little black things, creeping silently away under the piles and cackling, when are searched after...

Another idea: a see-thru zip-lock bag with a bright emblem stuck on it.
I just know how difficult it is to look for such a necessary thing and not find it. At the moment my outer floppy disc reader is MIA. And I need it, if I want to ever finish writing one story which is on another laptop that does not read USB...

The thought occurs to me that I *could* sew some kind of little pouch for it/them.
