Let's do the time warp again!

Did a bit of rooting around in the living room this evening. Sorted a basket full of old bills and such, winnowed about 75% of it to shred. Started work on the entertainment unit that I want the new (inherited from Kat a year ago) TV to go into. The difficulty with that is, the e-unit is packed with stuff from top to bottom.
I started in the middle, figuring if nothing else, I could empty it out and get the TV off the floor and into that big opening. Encountered a large box filled with four old purses (one with reciepts dated August 1999) and a bunch of cassette tapes. I don't even know where my cassette player is, but with my luck, if I pitch them, I'd end up with a very retro vehicle as my next car. They're jinx protection, pure and simple.
In addition to the e-unit, there are two bookcases crammed with tapes dating back to 1984 when I got my first VCR. Getting rid of them (or at least 90% of them) will free up TONS of space and let me move the bookcases elsewhere.
Seriously, Fluffy? The Commish? Is available on DVD. These? Are VHS! The vid equivalent of 8-track, FFS. And Iron Chef TOS is on the Cooking Channel every day.
I have a credenza destined for the living room---it's going to replace the other e-unit, the one my old TV is in now. I'm not keeping any more tapes than will fit in its three bottom drawers, and possibly not even that many. (The long-term plan being to either rip them or get the corresponding DVDs. A few things have never made it to DVD, like The Burning Zone, Vengeance Unlimited, Wildside, Misfits of Science---so I need to sort carefully.) Fortunately, the important stuff was labeled. Let's just hope it's all still playable!
