Last week's red hot job possibility has gone to someone else, but there's an interview in the works for something else for next week. (I'm not going on about it, because, y'know---jinx.) The lead came, not from the state job site, but via a friend of a friend. I need to dust off a few references I haven't been in touch with in a while.

Sometime soon, Mb says she and Bunny are going to teach me how to extreme coupon. (Although, NOT as extreme as some of those people on TLC who clear out whole shelves of product and have entire rooms dedicated to their haul. Even if it's free, what's the point of getting four dozen of some condiment you don't even USE?!)

I got most of the icky stuff out of the fridge and down to the curb. Didn't get the TV last week, which was a blessing, because it's given me more time to clean.

Tomorrow being Friday, I have media night scheduled with J. Last week we went through several eps of The Dog Whisperer (Season Three) that she has from the library, and we're also making progress working our way through Trauma (mine). Not much of a social life, but what the hell, it's air-conditioned!

Right? I watch that show and I'd never use half of the stuff that those folks have stockpiled. I guess it could be given away to a food pantry or something.
I can't imagine checking out and having cashier's with such patience.

Part of the reason I watch is to see if some poor cahier goes postal. On the one hand, I know it's their job, but on the other hand, if I had some kook with four carts full of stuff breathing down my neck...oh man.

Got fingers crossed for the next opportunity, hon. *hugs*

That show has caused some stores and manufacturers to tighten up their coupon policies. A lot of those people ought to be appearing on "Hoarders" while they're at it, but I did like the one with the retired nurse who was a single mom to two girls. She's the one who bought a couple hundred bucks worth of real food for almost nothing. She was inspirational.

I get a fair number of printed coupons from various internet couponing sites and Kroger mails us bunches of them based on items I've purchased in the past. Those are really good and usually contain one or two coupons for free items like a dozen eggs or a bag of carrots. I'm a rank amateur compared to the people on Extreme Couponing, but I buy only what we need and still save close to 20 percent.

Right now the pickings from the couponing sites are kind of slim. Apparently it goes through cycles and the first of the year is a great time to find coupons. It started slacking off in May, but supposedly will pick up later in the year.

My thoughts exactly. I can see stockpiling even for hurricane season, holiday entertaining (holiday of your choice), enough to have as a cushion if there's a crisis, and yes, some people DO have large families---but 2000 rolls of toilet paper stashed in the kids' closet?! 80 bottles of ketsup (with a raincheck for the other 20)? A tall bookshelf filled with gallons and gallons laundry detergent?

"But it's FREE!" they say, gleefully filling their cart, leaving the shelf empty for the next customer. Well, they're full of glee. I call it selfish, personally.

On the one hand, yes, I know it's thrifty. We could all use a little thrift these days. On the OTHER hand, don't you wish some of these people would put all this strategy and brainpower into something on a broader scale, like solving world hunger?

If they all did it like this guy does, they'd go a long way toward eliminating hunger in America:

When I have the money, I do buy some extras for the food bank and keep a small stockpile at home, but it's never more than a couple of months worth of food and toilet paper. Our house is small and I'd rather not be living in a convenience store, you know?

Last week, I got my preferred brand o TP---a 12 pack, which should last a couple months since it's just me---on sale plus a coupon, which made me happy. One less thing to worry about for a while!

I've had good luck using the Rite-Aid UP rewards and managed to wrangle enough UP rewards to get free cat food and detergent last month, so I was chuffed about that. :)
