What childhood toy did you desperately want that your parents refused to give you? Do you still think about getting one?

What, you mean the pony we didn't have room for in the backyard? That they said we couldn't afford to stable at a real stable? (Granted we're talking about Staten Island, NY, but there were at least two stables there that I knew of at the time.) Not that a horse, strictly speaking, is a toy, but otherwise, I had a vast collection of plastic horses (including a LOT by Breyer), an ample array of Barbies and the like, new bicycles when I outgrew the old ones---no, the one thing I really had my heart set on that I never got was a horse/pony of my own.

Reality being what it is, I don't expect to add a horse to my life, unless I win the lottery and gain a Mustang!

I never got a pony either - and we actually had a freaking farm to house it! I still think that was vaguely unreasonable of my folks *g*

I made long and extensive lists from the wishbook every year, but most were apparently transient items, because I can recall very few things that I truly craved but never got. one was an easy-bake oven (though we got to use the real one with supervision, so that wasn't so bad) and I always wanted a litebright - yet somehow I survived to adulthood without them.

I had an Easy-Bake oven, although I learned to jigger the door, because otherwise it took forever to let you get at the goodies. Never had a Lite-Brite, although a friend of mine did. Meh. Not that big a deal. I had a Spirograph, though---remember those? The little wheels with holes that you ran around a frame to make fancy geometric shapes?

yeah, at some point at a friend's I figured out that litebrite wasn't all that, but until then I *really* wanted it.

I remember spending tons of time with the Spirograph - I loved the scrolling patterns and messing about with different coloured pens to create different lacy effects.

Always liked Etch-A-Sketch- still do! I think my cousin had an Easy Bake Oven but the baked goods always tasted like crap. I do remember doing Incredible Edibles, too. Stuff that was used in all of that is probably what's causing diseases now..ha ha

Incredible Edibles...was tas the one with the little square thing like an open-top kiln? And square metal molds, either bugs or geometric shapes? And you could "cook" either edible stuff, the texture of gummis or wiggly rubber? It was by Mattel, of course.
