Today after church, we had another clothing swap. I got rid of the two bags full of stuff from Kat that I've been carting around for a month (because of a retreat they were holding for the Buddhist group, there was no place at church I could stash it, so they've been living in the Honda). Most of it was unclaimed and will go to the local run-away shelter. Fine with me; there was only one thing in those bags that would've fit me, and it was a granny dress I wouldn't have worn to a dog fight, so away it went.

I got three perfectly splendid jackets, all courtesy of Reenie. One is solid black gauzy cotton. There's a black silky jacquard with a bamboo-ish pattern in khaki-gold. And there's an awesome primitive-woven...I'm trying to think of the word for that style--it's kind of South American tribal...very colorful: this one is mostly blues and plums and some black and tan--it'll go with every pair of pants I own. Yay!

There was an individual there who was particularly grabby; she's smaller than I am, but she had no compunction about snatching several things I could have used. I didn't make an issue of it, but apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed her behavior---the consensus after the party broke up was, next time, if an item is being disputed, it'll go to the person who has fewer items. I let one jacket I would've loved (black and rust leaves, gorgeous!) go to someone I'm fond of---but that's different. She's a regular who helps with things and I've known her since before either of us started going to church there. The grabby one shows up intermittently, doesn't do a whole helluva lot, and usually gets into at least one argument when she does show up.

She's managed to come to both swaps so far and bagged quite a bit. The fact that she *isn't* a 2XL hasn't stopped her from grabbing items in the upper plus range--and yes, it pisses me off. Most of the gals range between a size 14 and a 20. There's a lot of stuff in those sizes going back and forth. Clothes that fit yours truly--few and far between. And as I may have mentioned, she isn't that big!

Do I sound greedy? To put things in perspective, everyone else wound up with at least a dozen items. I got three jackets and a pink cotton swim cover-up. Not exactly an acquisitive haul--I tried a few things that just weren't gonna fit, and if they didn't, I offered them to anyone else who was interested. And it's not that I'm gonna be walking around in a garment made of fig leaves without those few things, but she didn't even check to see if the items fit, just "Oooh, gimme!". (Yes, I'm pissed at her. I own it---the woman rubs me the wrong way, and this afternoon just heightened the antipathy.) Tell me, am *I* being a bitch here, or was that awfully selfish of her?

The fact that the subject came up after her departure--was it coincidence?--I don't think so. (I strongly suspect that Reenie had several of those things earmarked for me, and this was her way of trying to play fairy godmother without being obvious.) Anyway, things ought to turn out differently next time!

You're definitely *not* being a bitch. I work for a church and I've seen plenty of the same behavior. ((Sigh))

I'm glad to hear you think so---I tend to overthink things, and in this case, it's occurred to me that maybe I'm the one being gimme-gimme--I *did* get several lovely things, I shouldn't be whining about not having gotten more. It's always easier to see the mote in someone else's eye....

I hate it when little people grab the plus-size stuff. It's like, dude, you have other options. The big girls don't.

She's not teeny-tiny, or I'd really be ticked, but I'm at least a 2X (if it's sized generously!) and she's *maybe* 1X. So yeah, it kinda snarks me. And she outright snatched a couple of things...and I'm gonna keep reminding myself that it *won't* happen the next time we do this, and that me being gracious about it gets me more brownie points than her being a bitch does....

*deep breathing...in through the nose, out through the mouth...*

Yeah, maybe since it's only one size difference, it didn't occur to her to let the bigger girls have that stuff, but the snatching and hoarding really is just plain greedy and rude.

Pfft. There's label size, and there's real life mass. I've got a hundred pounds on her, easy, to call a shovel a shovel. But, like I said, she's not the most socialized person around, and I really didn't want to get into it with her and start a feud. There are, unfortunately, enough of those rumbling around the congregation without me adding to it over a few secondhand garments, tasty though they were. *polishes halo*
