Monday, Monday....

Hospitality went off without any trouble. There were just two of the bbq beef sliders left, and just enough bean-corn salad to fill the beef container. Somebody brought in a homemade cake that attracted more people than Sara Lee, so I have leftovers of that, too. Got the Sunday papers on the way home and spent much of the afternoon and evening clipping coupons. (Some very good stuff this week, I'm quite pleased.
Catastrophe as I was getting ready for bed: my glasses disappeared. I can only surmise that they fell off into the midden below. I'm damn near blind without my glasses and my room has very poor lighting; I stumbled around for twenty minutes or so, snatching at anything shiny or reflective---nothing. Was ready to make a "Good-bye cruel world" call to Mb, because by then I was completely convinced that I was a nasty, disgusting person who had inadvertantly done something terrible to merit such rotten kharma.
Finally had a moment of clarity and remembered that I have a back-up pair of glasses and had a good idea where they were (and I was right!). Granted, they have a crack through the left lens, which is damned annoying, but I can see, which is the important thing. Tomorrow---since I'm ensconced at Mb's for the day---I will attack my room. Carefully, so that I don't find my glasses feet first, which would be a Very Bad Thing.
Mb came and got me before daybreak for the food pantry, and it was well worth it: I got a leg of lamb---!!! and the volunteer said that she always has lamb, but usually doesn't put it in the general bin to be picked over because most people don't like it, and next time, if that's what I want, just ask her. Woohoo! Yes, ma'am! Instead of cake, I happily scored a box of croissants. And got a bag of egg noodles, which makes up for the bag I cooked up at J's last Friday night and served with Hormel beef tips---although I suspect there was a bison in there somewhere.
After the food pantry, we detoured to the C's; they were saving their coupons for me. Also got gifities! They've unpacked, and AI presented me with a book on making wire jewelry, including knitting and crochetting wire. Knowing my penchant for bling, she also got me these fab earrings:
This pic is misleading: they're actually clear crystal, and look like gonzo diamonds. Don't I wish!
Anyway, right now, Mb is making grilled sheese sammies and afterward, I'm going to make some calls on her landline.

Date: 2011-10-03 08:16 pm (UTC)And LAMB! Man, you say lamb to me and I start listing meals like the narrator in A Christmas Story: roast lamb, lamb sandwiches with spicy brown mustard, lamb stew, lamb pilaf. *drools* How great that you can get it from the food bank!
