A nice day

I've been at Mb's since last night. We went to the food bank this morning, then she went out to do laundry while I got somewhat caught up on my TV. First half of the Sons of Anarchy season finale was intense. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's ep, although it'll be at least Wednesday before I see it.

We went down to the Chinese buffet in Melbourne for dinner. I had Thai chicken on rice, bean sprouts, green beans and mushrooms, and egg drop soup. Non-nom-nom! The restaurant was having an off night, things not seasoned as they usually are, but it still satisfied a craving. Then we drove around looking at Christmas lights. Peaceful.

I'll be home again tomorrow, because I have a dog on Wednesday with J. This little guy was an absolute fiend the first session---severe aggression toward golf carts---but last week he really came around. His owner was crying with happiness, because he watched the cart drive past with no reaction at all. Better yet, the owner of the cart has a dog walking business in that subdivision, so hopefully she will recommend us to some of her problem clients.

I signed up for one of those low-income phone plans with free minutes...hopefully I'll hear back from them by the end of next week. I've been using a PAYGo phone, which I just can't afford any longer. (A shame, because the number is very easy to remember---the last four digits are the year my mom was born.) This plan gives me 240 minutes per month. They don't roll over unless I pay to add minutes, and then they roll for three months. I just hope there won't be a problem with reception from my house---it's intermittant with the PAYGo. Crossing fingers....

TTFN.

The phone plan -- SafeLink, perchance? It's a pretty good program, I scored one for my mom (Caelie's on the reduced lunch plan at school, so I qualified, but I already have a cell) and she's had it for 2 years now. She opted for the 125 minutes a month that roll over. Edited to add: she's had pretty good luck with the reception, for the most part, though the signal is usually a lot stronger outside than inside the house.

Yes, SafeLink. My tentative strategy is to get a phone card so it'll all roll over for three months, and once I've accumulated a healthy balance, opt for the plan that *does* roll over. At least, that's how J says she did it.

My current reception is a little sporradic, but the all-time worst was the time I got a phone---NOT the one I have now---which I never used, because it was supposed to be my emergency phone, and it turned out that my house was outside the coverage area and cost five dollars a minute for roaming charges. And THAT is why I will never use Virgin again.

$5.00 a minute? *swallows tongue*

Are you fucking kidding me? That's highway robbery!

I know, right? I spent something like $50 for the phone and minutes, and ended up never using the damned thing, ever, because of the roaming. I was massively pissed.
