I didn't actually get to sleep last night til after midnight. Then my eyes popped open around 4:30 and refused to let me go back to sleep. Swell.

That did give me a chance to get somewhat caught up on my DVR trove. Yesterday's Adam-12s (two eps back-to-back) were both from 1974/75*. One had a female!police!officer! riding with Reed because Malloy was filling on for Mack, who was busy on assignment elsewhere. She was played by JoAnne Pflug, one of those 70s names I haven't heard in ages. Lots of chauvinism and having to prove herself. Someday, I'm going to do some Adam-12 meta on then and now. It's coming; I can feel it.

The second ep featured Reed partnered with a rookie (again, Malloy was subbing for Mack...wait, that just sounds wrong), and I yelped when I recognized the kid as a baby-faced, 24 y.o. Mark Harmon. That's easily the youngest I've ever seen him, and he didn't even sound like I'm used to. According to IMDb, that was only his third acting credit, after Emergency and something called Ozzie's Girls.

I suspect there's an afternoon nap in my future, if not sooner.

* Depending on whether you believe the copyright date on the credits (1974), or IMDb (1975).

Ozzie's Girls will have involved Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, I think. The Nelsons and the Harmons were TIGHT. There are intermarriages. I think Tracy Nelson is a product of an intermarriage between the clans.

One of the things I'm getting the weirdest enjoyment out of in the Columbos, (aside from awesome guests and full credits at the end)) is seeing those old copy-wright dates in the roman numerals.

Young Mark must have been absolutely adorable.

I actually had to stop and think for a second: "Columbo? Was he the one with the cockatoo? No, that was Baretta." Gotta love those 70s cop shows! Who loves ya, baby?

And the whole TV Show Named After Main Character is a trope that seems to have gone out the window. The last one I can think of is Frasier, although maybe The Good Wife counts?

I will probably be writing about Baretta, Starsky & Hutch, Kojak, McMillan & Wife, Banacek and a few of the others. I'm trying to keep a good mix of both eras and genres.

If you count "The Good Wife", you have to count "The Nanny", too.

I liked "Hart to Hart" better than "MacMillan and Wife". I liked "Starsky and Hutch" partially because my cousin worked on it, (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0647603/), but would rather watch "Simon and Simon". And I liked "Magnum PI" even without Carl's name in the credits!

Did you ever see Mark Harmon in Emergency!? It was actually a pilot ep for another series - good enough, I guess, but very disappointing because of the severe lack of Johnny Gage.

I think Mark Harmon's sister was married to Rickie Nelson and was is the mother of Tracy and the twin brothers who had a band back in the late 80s.

Since it's never been out on VHS/DVD, I haven't seen Emergency! since it went off the air, alas. The first thing I remember watching Mark Harmon in is Chicago Hope, which had an all-around fabu cast.

I remember Nelson, the band---and the yummy twins!---vividly. Heck, I think I've still got their CD kicking around here somewhere....

Netflix has Emergency! on streaming vid. (It also had them on DVD a few years ago, which is how I rewatched seasons 1-4. I watched season 5 on streaming and have season 6 saved for streaming sometime. I wonder if it's a special release for Netflix, or something? I don't remember ever seeing them in a video store or anywhere like Target or WalMart.

I don't have/have never had Netflix, but that's certainly incentive....
