Forboding

Here it is, barely May, and I'm already miserable from the heat. This does not bode well.

I've already begun taking cold showers. This does not bode well.

Walking back and forth to the refrigerator for cold drinks is about the extent of my exertion, and I feel stewed in my own juices. This does not bode well.

This morning, as I left Publix, I tried to lower my window for more air, and discovered it was already down. This does not bode well.

It's "only" 88F, and it'll be a lot warmer, soon. This does not bode well.

I just returned last evening from your old stomping grounds in upstate NY, where it was chilly to freezing most days. I swore I would never complain about the heat again but today, I broke that promise!
It was strange to be wearing layers in May and sleeping in flannel PJ's.

Right now, that sounds divine. Layers and flannel, I mean.

Welcome home! How's the Captain?

I feel your pain. It was in the upper 80's here in Ohio the last two days. Factor in the humidity and it felt more like 95+. THANK GOD my father got my kitchen A/C put in last weekend and I put the bedroom window unit in a day later -- just in time. Even then, driving back and forth to work and the grocery store was HELL.

I have a feeling we're all in for a blistering summer. *sigh*

Right now, I have a decent amount of credit with the water department. Electric...IDK. I don't think I can afford to run the air anywheere NEAR as much as I need to. I'm starting to wonder if I could head over to a local motel and sneak into their pool....

Forgive me if I've asked this before (and forgotten the answer)... Why is it so pricey to run your A/C? Granted, I know you're in Florida and there's no heat/muggy like Florida heat/muggy. Up here, though, we NEVER have heat without the humidity - so it's pretty similar. My budget for water/electric is $50 and in the summer, even if I'm running the A/C every day for 12 hours a day (like I did during the summer of 2010) my bill only goes up about $22 each month.

My normal water bill is about $15 a month. During the summer, when I'm taking 3-4 long cold showers a day, it's closer to $25. Normal light bill is $50-60 a month, and running the A/C full time can double it. And what with not having an income and my money shrinking fast...cold showers it is.

Gotcha. I agree, better safe than sorry. It's just too bad you can't run the A/C that you clearly need, living down south! :-(

Time to fire up the ol' resume and try to get back to the job search. Which I don't feel terribly hopeful about, because there are literally hundreds of out-of-work from the Space Center in our area. I'm so depressed, it's a wonder I haven't imploded like a black hole.

Hope it's an anomaly and it gets back to spring temps quickly. Only 77 here today but already sticky. Hope that's an anomaly too! Fortunately, we have good cross-breezes inside and combining those with fans makes it very comfortable indoors so far.
