I renewed my driver's license online last night. This is huge, because I had people telling me that I'd NEVER be able to do it online, that DMV is demanding a birth certificate, SS card, proof of residence, DNA, the whole meggelah, to prove that I'm a citizen.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that because I've been at the same address since I got my learner's permit in 1976, own said property, am a registered voter and have responded for jury duty that they've figured out that I *am* a citizen, how shocking.

Now I just have to get cash deposited to cover it. J, who uses the same bank I do, swears that weekend transactions don't post til midnite Monday, so as long as I get it in before two PM, I'm golden. (Still working on tag renewal, but that's marginally less urgent.

Yesterday was quiet, and that's okay. Mb will be here shortly to take me to lunch, Kay's Place barbecue, where I'm happily anticipating their Monday special of beef tips and gravy over noodles. Kat and I used to meet there for lunch four Mondays out of five, and I always had that and I miss it. Not as much as I miss Kat, but still....

I don't know how much longer before cable/internet provider will pull the plug, so if you don't hear back from me in a timely fashion,, you'll know why.

Yeah, funny how they expect money! And I just don't know when I'll have enough to make them happy.

Too bad you can't use the barter system as backup....

You can renew online for a number of years and then they make you come in to have a new photo made. I had the same license since 1989 (they kept sending me new stickers for the back) but this year, they made me come in person. THAT's when you need the plethera of ID.

Yeah, the pic on my old one is dreadful, but I'll live with it if it means staying out of the DMV. Heck, my previuous license (the one with the *good* picture was issued in '87 and replaced in '05 with this one. Being a safe driver, they kept letting me renew it remotely. Mb couldn't believe I got to do it online; she had to bring in her divorce papers and a bunch of other stuff...thankfully, I'm a lot less complicated!

I am now good until 2020. Hopefully by then I will no longer be driving but retired to a beach house and sipping on Pina Coladas daily. :)

I wish ours could wait every 7+ years. We have to renew every FOUR years here in Ohio!

I think ours depends partly on driving record. Knock wood, I haven't had any problems.

I think that here in the state of Florida, they should test those over age 70 at least every 3-4 years. Too many elderly who really shouldn't be driving yet are. Lots of accidents over here beach side where I work. Typically, it is an 80+ year old behind the wheel of an older Cadillac.

I'm not surprised. On the on hand, I understand not wanting to lose their independence, especially since public transportation around here is fairly bleak. On the other hand, talk about your weapons of mass destruction! A Coupe deVille being piloted by an 85-year old who can barely see over the steering wheel, especially after the last round of cataract surgery---THAT'S scary!
