I'm off to jury duty shortly. I don't have to be there til 8, but want to avoid as much traffic as I can and get a deceent parking spot.

Btw, [livejournal.com profile] ang5fam, I read the fine print on the notice; it IS $15 a day for the first 3 days, after that it goes up to $30. (But it'll only be more than one day if I'm actually assigned to a case.)

I'm trying to pack lightly and I'm taking a see-thru tote bag to make going through security easier, I hope. I'm really hoping there's some kind of free wireless in the courthouse. That would definitely make it worthwhile.

I got called to jury duty once, but I got an exemption as it was the middle of term and it would disrupt my students to have a sub brought in.

I'd say have fun, but somehow that seems inappropriate. ;)

Aside from the drive, there's air conditioning and wifi, so I'm happy. And we had a judge come in and talk to us, and he was interesting.

Yahoo on the stipend! It has sure increased since I did jury duty~ it was only $6 per day a couple of years ago. I guess they figured that folks can't afford to leave their house for that!
I really enjoyed my 2 day stint on jury duty.

Considering Viera isn't very residential--it's a pretty good drive for most of the county--a decent allowance is only fair. But I tell you, if I have to come back tomorrow, I'm packing a lunch!

Yes~ the options for food around there are pretty slim. I think I had a hot dog downstairs one day at the courthouse and it was expensive.

Pretty awesome of the courthouse to have wireless. The last time I was on jury duty, I took a stack of crossword puzzles printed out from the 'net with me and did them during the down times. It was hard to concentrate on a book because we were crowded together like cattle at all times.

Yeah, although the current state of the space program has hit our county hard, we're still pretty tech-saavy. I would've been surprised if the ourthouse *didn't* have wireless! After all, the libraries have it. Maybe I'm spoiled...?
