"We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks."

Repost the above or not. I'm curious about who "we" is, but a virtual show of hands isn't going to hurt anything, so wtf....

For the record, I also believe in gravity, fresh air, the right to free speech, and that people exercising their right to free speech on cell phones in traffic need to hang up and drive! I believe that not all babies are beautiful, old age does not automatically equate to wisdom or senility, and that a guy who's over fifty and is driving a flashy convertible is clearly having a mid-life crisis. I believe in religious tolerance, but not when it rings my doorbell at 7:30 in the morning---or any other time it rings my door bell, for that matter. I believe that if we'd spend as much money developing alternative power sources as we are on fighting over the world's biggest sandbox, that we could leave the sandbox to them, and maybe they'd stop trying to fuck with us. I believe that the US healthcare system needs to be overhauled 100%, including a mandate that will require all insurance companies to share a common rejection form. (There is ONE universal form for filing an insurance claim, and 5000 different rejection forms. It's insane.) I believe that "One Size Fits All" is a damned lie, that all car salesmen lie, but that contrary to what Dr. Gregory House thinks, not everybody lies. (Sometimes they're just wrong..or misinformed.) I believe in chocolate, and kharma, and that some day I'll win the lottery and be able to do nice things for my friends. I believe in my friends, and I've seen them believe in me.

Thank you.

... and I believe there should be a "Fluffy hour" on tv! your credo is fantastic :)

for some reason I cannot repost this thingy. The sentence "if you do not believe ... don't repost ..." makes me think of these chain letters threatening warts and bad sex if you don't copy them 55 times. I mean, perhaps I'm ms. gay rights incarnate and simply don't want to repost stuff? but I guess the collective we who invented this meme meant well.
wish you a happy Schnauzer time! did you know that "Schnauzer" also means "moustache" in German?

A TV show? I'd settle for a fund-raising telethon. Although, if I got to select a few good-looking guys for co-stars, that would certainly be a treat....

Gee, I *have* broken a few chain letters in my time---I guess that explains my love life, or lack thereof.

Yes, my godchildren are very handsomely bearded, even the girls. *grin*

WORD, sister. ;-)

As for gay rights, I'm all for 'em. We're all human beings, regardless of who we're sleeping with.

But gee, since the Current Administration derives its income from fossil fuels, maybe there's a teeny little conflict of interest there! *bares teeth, and not to smile*

And as far as the sex police go, maybe they could find more constructive ways to occupy their time. I hear Meals On Wheels is always looking for drivers. Volunteer work is a great outlet if you want to do something positive---and it doesn't trample on anyone else's toes.

Amen to all that, sister. I'd add that how a society treats its weakest citizens -- the old, the sick, the poor, the disenfranchised -- is a true reflection of that society.

Then call the Humane Society, because stray dogs are treated better. To get any kind of help, you have to shed all your dignity and jump through a series of demeaning hoops to prove that you're really, really worthy of the little bit of assistance they're willing to dole out IF you meet their sacred criteria.

Look at Medicare. Guidelines are an annual mammo after what, age 50? 60? It doesn't matter, M'care only pays for it every THIRD year, regardless of your risk factors.

Most insurance will cover maternity but not contraception; and I know at least one couple that's had two children and not married because they'd lose welfare benefits. How f*cked up is that?!

I love my country, but I fear/hate its government.

I completely agree. There aren't words to describe how I feel whenever I hear anyone in government talk about cutting social programs to create a tax cut and letting "faith based organizations" pick up the slack. That would be churches, and hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't call or show up at the door of the one I work for seeking help. We could funnel every dime the congregation tithes into social outreach and barely make a dent in the problems people aren't able to get help for: drug addiction, hunger, poverty, domestic abuse, lack of medical care.

I truly despair about what's happening to our country.

The expression "primal scream" comes to mind. The gap between the wealthy and the poor expands continually. (Sound effect: ka-ching ka-ching of a cash register keeping score of the difference.) More big business mega-conglomerates, fewer mom-and-pop businesses. The Mall is an octopus, strangling Main Street.

The middle class is erroding, living from paycheck to paycheck, moving in with grandma and grandpa if Mommy's job is sent overseas or Daddy gets downsized. Little Jordan has crooked teeth? Too bad. Back in the day, Grandpa could afford braces for Mommy's teeth, but Mommy's lucky if she can find a program that'll get Jordan's teeth cleaned once in a while---braces are a luxury item. These days, Grandpa is living on a fixed income and worried about the cost of his prescription drugs---he can't help even though he'd like to.

Performers and athletes are making millions upon millions, and acting like there's such a thing as a Constitutional Right to be uncivilized and ungrateful and stage public exhibitions of bad behavior. Yes, many celebrities are compassionate and give something back, but it certainly seems like many more of them take pleasure in seeing how offensive they can be. "As long as they spell my name right, it's all good publicity!" Promiscuity and repeated trips to rehab are held up as a "normal" lifestyle. Hey, why shouldn't they expect to get away with this nonsense? Look at what we tolerate from our elected officials, who are presumably wiser and more mature!

...And if I keep going on that track, I'm going to start foaming at the mouth. My loathing for the Current Administration knows no bounds (bearing in mine that I live in Florida, home of Brother Jeb, and I firmly believe that Dubya's election was nothing less than FRAUD).

I pootled over here after seeing your comment on pwcorgirl's journal, and can only add an amen to the above. Could I also add "I don't believe all people are stupid, it's just that the stupid ones are noisier"? Can you tell I work with the public?

It's interesting that the main opposition party over here is planning on making the National Health Service a main priority for the next election (in a couple of years), as that's what matters most to the electorate in the UK. I'm not saying the NHS works perfectly (I don't like being laughed at) but by the sound of it, we don't know how good we've got it.

"I don't believe all people are stupid, it's just that the stupid ones are noisier"?

After many years as a CSR, I wholeheartedly concur. I also believe that people ought to be licensed to use the phone the same way they're licensed to drive. (I think that's going to have to be a rant post onto itself.)

The stupid ones are noiser...brilliant.

Maybe they could be issued with landline or mobile licences, the way you get automatic or manual driving licences (over here, at any rate). Once they've mastered talking at a normal volume, they can move onto not stepping on people in the street while walking and talking at the same time.

Erm, exhibiting ignorance here, but what's a CSR? - sounds like a painful medical procedure "I'm sorry, madam, we had to perform a CSR on your husband. We're hoping he'll pull through but the next 24 hours are crucial." Think the madness of work is going to my head...

CSR = Customer Service Representative...in a variety of jobs, so I have learned through prolonged experience that there's truth in the saying, "Never underestimate the stupidity of the average person, because HALF of the people out there are BELOW average."

The NHS has its drawbacks, but you at least have a safety net of basic health care in place for everyone. This is not true in the United States. What we have is a confusing, expensive, hole-filled patchwork that leaves people at the whims of the marketplace, both in trying to obtain health insurance and in the cost of actually using it.
