Grr. Facts can be damned inconvenient. At the moment, they're very inconvenient indeed. It seems that I can't state that a certain thing causes something else, because on looking more closely about the facts concerning that thing, it has exactly opposite effects. Buggery sod...so, on to Plan B, which involves rewriting certain consequences and adding another element which is more plausible than Plan A.

It's a bloody nuisance, but at least it's only 2000 words and not 3/4 done. (I'm just getting warmed up, really.) And it isn't like I have to rewrite the whole thing, just fiddle with a few 'graphs....

Plus, it gives me a chance to be cryptic, although I suspect six months down the line, even I won't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Nitey-nite!

Ha! I'll tell you what irritates me. A lot of the cool cultural clashes that Crichton used in 13th Warrior are bogus. Either he didn't do his research or he didn't care. (Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, a position I do respect.) For instance, Ibn Fahdlan's Arabian horse would not have been smaller than the Viking horses - most of the large horse breeds have been bred in the last 1000 years, well after the movie was set. The Vikings would have ridden pony-sized horses who are direct ancestors of the small Icelandic horses of today. Plus, I can't find any support for the idea that Ibn Fahdlan could drink mead because it comes from honey. The Prophet seems to have been extremely clear that Muslims are prohibited from imbibing anything that intoxicates, regardless of what it's made from. ::sigh:: Okay, sorry to babble so long in your journal about my problems. *g*

No problem at all. I've already been cussing this morning because follow-up research is telling me that in RL, if symptom A was present, treatment B wouldn't be recommended. It's not a major point, though, and the number of people who are likely to call me on it is probably slight.

Meanwhile, the crack!fic is brewing happily in my cauldron. Yum!
