It was damp and chilly this morning, so I got to wear my chenille poncho (shades of pink, orange and yellow) over my orange shirt with black pants and shoes. I added my new pop cap belt, my pink chenille scarf and fuzzy white hat with the pink, yellow and green flower, and toted my I've Been Everywhere munchbox in lieu of a purse. I was quite colorful!

To my delight, the weather cleared up by the time dinner hour was over, so I changed (having thoughtfully provided myself with some less chi-chi-frou-frou clothes) and went to go look at cars. Specifically, the Impala, and about a minute and a half was sufficient to convince myself that it was beyond me. As I suspected, the engine compartment was empty. I could tell, not because there was anyone there to show it to me, but because the hood was propped up beside it. Scratch the Impala.

However, there's another place literally across the street from it that I've had my eye on, so I wandered over there after sighing about the Impala that is not to be. This other place has several vehicles that meet my criteria of interesting. There's a '71 Cutlass---I used to have a '71 Buick, so there was a strong nostalgia factor there. Not in bad condition, bodywise, but the price tag is beyond my means. (Not unreasonable, just beyond my means.) Likewise the Fury Sport gave me a few minutes of time travel---my dad had a '68 when I was growing up---but it was eaten up with rust. The ground was visible through the floorboards, the roof looked like it would cave if you leaned on it---*not* a viable option.

Then we get to the Camaro. The battery needs a charge, but the guy claims it runs great. He had guests, so I didn't hang around, but I've got his number, scribbled on a panel torn from a carton of Bud. He says give him a call when I want to come by and take it out to "rocket around".

It's not a classic Camaro---it's about the same vintage as the one S has**, but not as badly rusted. Hers is chewed up with rust, but this one mostly has dents on the left side. Not collision damage; according to the owner, it got bumped when they were shifting things around on the lot---he's recently run afoul of Code Enforcement, and I told him I can relate! I'm reasonably sure it isn't serious enough to have thrown it out of alignment or screwed up the frame. I'm somewhat more concerned with the crack in the windshield. It's not a spiderweb: it runs from the wiper well up diagonally on the driver's side.

The interior...looks like it's been semi-gutted. There's no ignition, no door hardware, and I don't think the driver's seat is bolted down. (At which point, noticing this, the thought went through my head: And how often do I use the passenger seat in the Honda?) There's a gaping hole in the dash where the stereo should be. The headliner is drooping.

Oh, but did I mention? It has an Edelbrock carburetor instead of fuel injectors, posi-traction rear end, hood vents and...heh heh...a sun roof.

It's in rough shape, but is [possibly] within my capacity to repair. (My inner badass smacks me upside the head and growls that if I can manage to interconnect a #$%&ing TV, a DVD and a VCR, I ought to be able to install a CD player in a car. Or better yet, an MP3 player with some bitchin' speakers.)

He said he was asking $800, but that that was negotiable. Hmm. IF it runs, I may offer him $600 and see what happens....
