That was me you heard screaming....
Oct. 24th, 2006 06:04 pmI just got off the phone, and barring anything heinous showing up on my background check, I'LL BE STARTING MY NEW JOB MONDAY!!! *does Snoopy dance*
I'm absolutely thrilled. I'll be taking catalogue orders over the phone, and I had to refrain from laughing my ass off when the woman asked if I was familiar with the internet. (Hee hee hee!) Does anyone else think that's hysterical?!
I was very firm on my ap about not working Sundays, so I got a schedule of Sun-Mon off, shift is 3-12, which doesn't thrill me, but wtf, I can always stick a tape in. What's good about it is, I'll miss rush hour, and I'll only have to drive one way in the dark.
Here's what's a little spooky. I need some things from the store. I've been putting it off all day. Finally got dressed. Had my purse, ready to go. Could not make myself move toward the door. Come on, it's almost 6, nobody's going to call this late...and then my phone rang, and I fished it out of my bag and got interviewed.
I don't take calls while I'm driving, and somehow, getting interviewed in the middle of Winn-Dixie strikes me as completely surreal. So, whatever rooted my feet in my bedroom timed it awfully well. The gal asked me what three things I thought were most important for good customer service. I said, the ability to listen, the ability to communicate, and the willingness to do what's necessary to ensure a satisfactory resolution. We talked about dress code, which sounds like anything short of pajamas and bunny slippers, and scheduling, and the possibility of this being more than a seasonal job, because after the holidays, they are going to be backfilling permanant positions from the seasonal pool. Meaning, if I stand out in a good way, I can probably turn this into a long-running gig. Oh God, the endorphin rush is just phenomenal!
Thanks, everybody, for all the love and good mojo! I'm so happy right now I think I'm fixing to levitate!

Date: 2006-10-25 12:20 am (UTC)Yes, it's a good day for singing a song,
and it's a good day for moving alone;
Yes, it's a good day, how could anything go wrong,
A good day from morning' till night
Yes, it's a good day for shining your shoes,
and it's a good day for losing the blues;
Everything go gain and nothing' to lose,
`Cause it's a good day from morning' till night
I said to the Sun, " Good morning sun
Rise and shine today"
You know you've gotta get going
If you're gonna make a showin'
And you know you've got the right of way.
`Cause it's a good day for paying your bills;
And it's a good day for curing your ills,
So take a deep breath and throw away your pills;
`Cause it's a good day from morning' till night.

Date: 2006-10-25 12:26 am (UTC):-)
I took catalog orders many years ago, when my son was a toddler. I actually enjoyed it and might even still be doing it...if the store hadn't gone out of business (Montgomery Ward, btw).

Date: 2006-10-25 12:09 pm (UTC)It's gonna take some getting used to---I've been out of work for six
slothfulunstructured months, so getting my ass in gear at an early hour and being twenty-odd miles away by 8:30 a.m. will be a challenge!(no subject)
