Things being somewhat dire, I applied online for food stamps a couple weeks ago.

Yesterday I got a letter telling me I needed to call them for a phone interview. I couldn't get through then, so I was up and pounding the keys at 8 sharp this morning.

At approximately 8:00:37, I got through...to their hold system.

I'm still holding. Only the thought of running out of some vital ingredient that will magically enhance beans, rice and eggs compels me to stay on the line.

Good thing I'm not trying to do this on my prepaid, I'd've run out of minutes by 9.

I have to wonder how many people they actually have manning their phones. Not enough, clearly. Which, considering this is the governemnt, is stoopid (but I repeat myself); they need to open a couple more call centers. That way, they would have more help,AND they could put people like me to work. Not only would we not be on unemployment, we might not even need food stamps. Whoa, radical concept!

One of these days, I have *got* to get a cordless phone.

Today's agenda calls for calling out from work. Adventures with GK, Red and CF take priority. (And I have time off to cover it. The three most dangerous words in the English language: I don't care.) I'm up early to wash my hair, which is icky.

News from work: C-Boss is gone! After all of what, five months? Quite abrupt, although she *was* acting snappish the previous week. No distress here, especially since her successor is (Oh gee, now I have to come up with a suitable cover name!) the gal I sold the big LeSnobbi bag to. She's a sweetie, and she likes me---she used to coach me back when she was a rep---so I'm pretty mellow about the news.

Also, we have FINALLY been assigned to desks---this was another of C-Boss's "innovations". We started shifting around in October, for crying out loud, and I've spent the last few months lugging a piece of wheeled luggage in with me every day. Now I can park a box on my desk and a tote bag under it and just schlep my purse. Thank goodness!

Got off work last night and crawled under my desk to organize the wires down there--one of them kept shorting out my monitor every time I brushed against it. Then I went out to the parking lot and found I had a semi-flat tire. Nursed it to the station up the street, pumped air into it and it held all the way home. (I stopped twice to check.) Something else to worry about. I need to find another car, PDQ.

I still haven't exercized the massive squee which was this week's SPN, but I'll get to that sometime this weekend....
