Aside from a few frustrations, today was a good day. I got to work early enough that I had time to hit Goodwill (Goodwill/payday = bad combination!), and I found an awesome coat. It's a brown-olive 100% wool Italian double-breasted full length coat, definitely trench coat-inspired. $25.99, which was kind of OUCH, but it's a *really* sweet coat. I MUST find a way to get pix! Also got a strand of hematite beads loosely strung on elastic---I will have NO problem recycling them into a cool piece.

Keeping a straight face was problematic at times, because I've found out a few things about the John/Mary story, and it's kept me amused. (Of course, I'm going to have to do some research about the year 1976...I was in high school back in those days; my memory leans more toward fads than specific news stories; that was the Bicentennial, and you couldn't turn around without tripping over red-white-and-blue something.) Following where the bunnies lead is so much fun---once they've gotten my attention, they have a tendency to bolt off on tangents I didn't expect, which is happening here. *smirk*

Also got totally pwned by a caller just before I left---she was interested in a garment from Pelts Leathermore (I can't tell you their real name, sorry!), and while I was looking the style info up, she mentioned that she'd been watching the news. Had I heard about the Pope? (No, ma'am. What about the Pope...?) He's quite ill with bird flu. (Oh dear, how unfortunate---but I'm sure he has the best doctors.) Yes, they've been studying his case, and they think he got it from a cardinal.

Ba-dum-boom....

Life is good!

I got my last 3 winter coats (different years) at a local thrift shoppe called Village Discount (like Goodwill, only better prices and better selection). YAAAAAAAY for great deals and paying a lot less!

And that joke about the Pope? Priceless. *giggle*

I have a rather rauccous laugh, so I really had to hold it in at work. I totally didn't see it coming. I was just trying to be diplomatic, because um, Darth Pope? Whatever....

You lucked out! It took a couple of years of diligent searching before I found my Sunday coat, a beautiful classic black wool, at the community thrift store for $8. That you're tall is actually a plus in coat-buying -- I'm a peewee and finding a long coat that didn't come down to my ankles was a real problem.

You should be able to find brown shoes easily. Brown is totally in right now. I took my husband shoe shopping this morning (and why a grown man cannot buy his shoes unaccompanied is a story for another day) and everything was brown. Of course he wanted black!

*laughs hysterically* Because men don't *get* shoes!

Okay, I'll amend that---99 44/100% of straight men don't understand the necessity of The Right Shoes. I once went to a get together with my ex-...about 20 miles from home, so I waited until we actually got to the restaurant before putting on my platform, lace-up patent leather sandals. And he's standing there in the parking lot, tapping his booted foot, scowling and asking *why* I have to wear these stupid shoes, anyway? The question is answered as soon as I set sandaled foot inside the door and another gal exclaims: "LOVE the shoes!" *smirk* (That's why!)

You're probably gonna hate me for saying this but I was in kindergarten in 76. I remember we all got these bicentennial sweatshirts with our school logo on them.

Tonight on the phones, I talked to a lady from my home town---I grew up literally just a few blocks away from where she lives, and she was telling me about all the changes in the area. I don't think I'd recognize ANYTHING if I was plopped down on the main drag...all the stores and shopping centers I grew up with are gone, replaced by big chains. *sigh*

They say you can't go home again...I guess it's true.
