O happy day!

I have a phone--a real, live phone in my house, so I no longer have to go running all over town to place a simple call. It's been about a year since my old number was disconnected. I had a couple unsatisfactory PAYGo experiences, and finally sucked it up and got plugged in through my cable/internet provider.
This means I can stay in touch with my friends, order pizza from the great place down the road that ISN'T an on-line chain, do comparison shopping, call out from work if I have to---in short, take care of business as usual, without having to resort to strategies like letting myself into the office at church (I have a key, and as long as it's only local calls, no one minds.) or using the pay phone back in what used to be the layaway department at the local Wal*Mart. The latter is the only pay phone that I know of that is a) available 24/7, b) quiet, as in, no traffic noises in the background, and c) also has a place to sit down.
The guy from the cable company was cute, albeit in a way-too-young-for-me kind of way. He didn't say anything about what a horror this place is, got me hooked up in less than an hour, and gives me hope for the future of the world. (Okay, so I'm really happy to have a phone.) What the hell, I tipped him $5. I don't know if one is supposed to tip service technicians that way and maybe I've just been oblivious all this time, but really. Phone. Happy. SO worth it.
Although most of the house is still a pit, I got a wild hair and got medieval on the kitchen. Took out the trash, created *another* whole bag of trash, consolidated a couple deposits of cans, cleared off the stove and countertop (the sink is still full), but huzzah, there's room to cook! And, I found a carton of strawberry Whoppers that I *knew* I'd bought before Easter, but they'd disappeared in the rubble.
I think maybe I'll have pizza for dinner---I can't remember the last time I had fresh pizza; not this year, at least---watch Jericho and Criminal Minds and go to bed EARLY, because tomorrow I have to be AT WORK at 12:15 for Trendicrap training.
Smoochies!

Date: 2007-05-10 01:48 pm (UTC)I don't know about that; they certainly point out pretty clearly who the idiots/asshats are---the ones who drive around in traffic with one hand, other one clamping cell phone to their head, sometimes paying attention to the road instead of who they're talking to, but not always. Or just walking around that way, chatting with thin air---if I had a dollar for every time I've been in a restroom at work and have had someone walk in having a personal conversation on a cell phone, I could afford to take a couple days off.... And they *never* turn the damned things off---what's so freaking important that the rest of the congregation has to listen to your phone play the theme from Star Wars in the middle of the offeratory?

Date: 2007-05-10 08:09 pm (UTC)That's part of the reason I'll NEVER own one - the assumption that seems to come with it, is that you're always 'on'....and I want to enjoy/pay 100% attention to whatever I'm doing, not being distracted all the time by inanities.

Date: 2007-05-13 02:12 pm (UTC)Interestingly, the IMDB lists him as being in BOTH parts of AHBL (now, why didn't I think of checking that earlier?), and the shadowy figure in the nursery during the flashback DOES look like John (although it's clearly the other actor's face we see when Mary comes running back in)...but yeah, that's not enough JDM for me!
But holy wow, if they do THIS to us the week *before* the cliffhanger, WTF are they going to torture us with over the summer? I'm starting to think Kripke's middle name is "You Bastard!"
No kidding. *sigh* Still, if I get SOME JDM next ep., I'll be a happy camper. I need SOMETHING to fuel my flagging Muses. :(

Date: 2007-05-13 02:21 pm (UTC)No shit. I'm so Jossed, my brain is melting. And it doesn't help that I missed a few episodes due to VCR malfunction. If the Season Two DVDs came out on June 1st, it wouldn't be a moment too soon.
