Domesticity
Nov. 27th, 2006 02:10 pmSomehow, I managed to skip breakfast this morning, but I marinated those chicken breasts I got the other day, did the dishes while they were soaking in honey-teriyaki sauce, and chucked them in the oven. I figure that, plus the remaining leftovers from T-day will last me through the week til payday. *beams*
Last week, I baked a batch of potatoes. Having them ready-cooked is quite handy. I can include one in my lunchbox or saute it as a side dish with eggs.
I also have an abundance of ready-cooked carrots---I was supposed to take them to S's for dinner, and somehow forgot them in the fridge---which left me with four pounds of cooked baby carrots. Luckily, carrots are a favorite of mine.
Traditionally, people start making lifestyle changes on or around January 1st, but I'm not making huge changes. I've given up adding salt to my cooking---so far, that's been good for about ten pounds. I'm trying to get away from the "Just add water" school of cooking as the mainstay of my diet. And because of the financial crunch of the last few months, I'm digging into my cabinets and using what I've got, which means actually cooking all the staples I bought then passed over in favor of "Just add water" stuff.
Mind you, after the holidays, IE, January, I want to start walking again. I need more exercise than I'm getting; walking doesn't cost money and I can schedule it in around my job.
Anyway, those are my good intentions, and now I'm going to go see how that chicken turned out.
