Rainy days on Sundays
Apr. 6th, 2008 11:50 pmToday's been quite a day. It began with a yummy dream. I was flirting with a guy with looked like Adam Rodriguez, with a neatly trimmed piratical beard and moustache. I didn't want to wake up from that one, but I'd signed up to do hospitality after church, thinking that with the property taxes out of the way, I'd have cash, no worries, good time to do it...of course, I didn't realize at the time that Asbury Arms was the day before. Up damned early two days in a row! (It didn't help that Mother Nature ambushed me on Friday evening, which may explain the dream I had later about rolling around with my "boss", who was in no way, shape or form anybody I've ever worked with. He was big, buff, thirty-something and I'm having a hot flash just thinking about it!)
To satisfy the hungry hordes, I used AI's recipe for bean-and-corn medley**, served up with flour tortillas and tortilla chips, shredded cheese on the side, and popcorn chicken for the carnivores among us. Dessert was a Boston creme cake from Winn-Dixie.
Got several compliments on the food, as well as what I was wearing. One of the things that surfaced during The Great Garage Purge with GK was a little black knit dress that I honestly thought I'd donated when I was at my all-time highest weight and had completely lost hope. I laundered it, and tried it on when I was running around trying to decide what to wear this morning---it fits. More than that, it looks GOOD. I added a pendant on a chain that I got yesterday, vintage Avon: a black "onyx" oval in a gold-tone filigree setting with a peach and gold rose on the onyx.
There was a quilt show in Melbourne this weekend, and I was thinking of going, but a) I didn't have anyone to go with, b) I knew there would be vendors, and I DON'T need more fabric!, c) I was feeling sleep deprived and d) I didn't like the looks of the weather. Ended up staying home and napping for four hours while it rained fish, so I think I made the best choice. Especially with that boss dream.
Oh, and I wrestled The Mirror in from the van and found out why it was so economical---it came loose from the frame, which I am clearly going to have to recondition heavily. *sigh* But when I'm done, it'll look very nice in here!
Watched Dexter, which I thoroughly adore. (I need to get back to that fic.) Have told CF that because of budgetary constraints, I really can't justify a shopping trip tomorrow, but lunch is do-able. That's up in the air. Tomorrow afternoon, I pick Kat up at the airport at 4, then at 6:30, Pagans Behaving Badly meets at a local restaurant. Tomorrow looks like a full, but hopefully not too full day.
=============
** Dead easy: Drain a can of whole kernel corn. Dump into large bowl. Drain can of black beans, dump on top of corn. Over that, dump a big can of light kidney beans, drained. Add a jar of salsa, as hot or as wimpy as you like. Stir. Cover and refrigerate. (I told you it was easy.)
