What does it say about my subconscious that for the last several mornings, I've awakened with the chorus to the Beatles "Just Another Day" crooning in my ear? (So sad, so sad...sometimes she feels so sad....) Then, when my day gets going, it's replaced by the melody from that maudlin Barillo picolini bowtie pasta commercial. Go figure.

I've had -- can't even remember the name of the song -- "What's your thang? Say what you wanna do." in my head the past two days. I'd swap your for the Beatles!

...I know somebody uses that as the background music for a commerical, but I'm darned if I can remember for what.

Here's a website where you can look up music used in television commercials. (Yes, yet another place to waste time on the internet! )

Awesome! (Now if I could just find a place that lists who does the voiceovers, I'd be set....)

It's called "It's Your Thing" by the Isley Brothers- circa 1969.
LOVE it! "It's your thing, do what you wanna do...."

Kudos to you! I know it's being used in a commercial for something or other. ("Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce is being used to hawk anti-aging creme, and every time I see that commercial, I mumble to myself that that "old" model wasn't even born when Jim Croce died...unlike myself.)

Bitchy music pedant alert!

That song is a Paul McCartney solo song, rather than a Beatles.

From Wicki:
"Another Day" is a song recorded by Paul McCartney in New York in 1970, during the sessions for his album Ram. It was released as a stand-alone single, the first of McCartney's solo career, on the Apple Records label in February 1971 with "Oh Woman, Oh Why" as the B-side.

"Another Day" is written in an observational style reminiscent of "Eleanor Rigby" and "She's Leaving Home". The lyrics describe the drudgery and sadness of an unnamed woman's life at work and at home, with the lilting melody of the verses and "du du du"s of the chorus contrasting with the darker tone (lyrically and musically) of the bridges. Linda McCartney provided harmony vocals. Her husband credited her as co-writer. However, this was seen as a business maneuver in the post-Beatles legal matters.

The song was a hit in both the U.S. and UK, achieving top-5 status on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching U.S. #5 and UK #2 in April 1971.[1] In Australia the song spent 1 week at #1. In France was also a #1 hit.

Although neither "Another Day" nor "Oh Woman, Oh Why" were actually a part of any McCartney album, some CD re-releases of Ram have one or both songs as bonus tracks. "Another Day" has also appeared on several of McCartney's greatest hits albums, including Wings Greatest, All the Best!, and Wingspan: Hits and History, although it should be noted that the song definitely predates the formation of Wings. It is the first in a very long succession of solo McCartney hits.

This song is referenced in John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?"

Okay, I've been wrong before. And it probably won't be the last time.

I know it's a small point, but given the perceived decline in Paul's song-writing post-Beatles, it's worth making. (And I did warn for bitchy music pedantry.)

But here's a fandom!secret I think you'll like.

Woohoo! Jailbait fangirls for Bobby!

I've IMDb'ed it: He's barely 10 years older than I am, and I regard that as perfectly fine, since there was 11 years between my parents and they had a long and successful marriage. *smirk*

I wake up with songs in my head all the time. Songs also invade when I'm trying to fall sleep... frequently songs in other languages. I don't know why my brain works this way. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is I sympathize. :)

I haven't awakened to any earworms for awhile now, but I do have to listen to music (I use the term loosely) at work. By "have to", what I mean is - my boss likes having the radio on low in the office. SHE can't even hear it (her office is around the corner) but *I* can. I swear to God, they play the same songs every hour, ON the hour. Rotation for the last 2-1/2 months has included "Pocket Full Of Sunshine", "I Kissed A Girl (And I Liked It)", "What About Now", "Take A Bow" and "All Summer Long".

I actually like "What About Now" (Daughtry), but I swear - if I have to listen to the rest of 'em one more time, I'm gonna go postal!

Oh, one of those "Flavor of the Month" stations? That's one of the reasons I don't listen to radio anymore. That, and the incessant commercials. It's been about five years since I last listened on a regular basis, and then only because the car I was driving didn't have any other devices. I ended up tuning into a Latino station---the music was peppy and the commercials were more entertaining because I couldn't understand them---it was like, "La la de da de la de John Smith Ford!"

"Flavor of the Month" (or last THREE months, rather) pretty much sums it up. Seriously, even if I *liked* those songs I wouldn't want to hear them 8 times a day, every day!

I normally avoid radio like the plague for the same reasons you mentioned. Boss lady, however, wants it on. Go figure!

The Addams Family? Then I guess those M&Ms commercials are making you nuts. Personally, the theme song I tend to earworm most is "I Dream of Jeannie".

the I dream of Jeannie song always makes me think of that Simpsons sequence where Homer is trying to gross himself out by thinking of Barney in a bikini drunkenly singing it.
