vanillafluffy: (Got chocolate?)

Today has been productive in small ways. I changed a lightbulb. (First, I had to find the package of new ones I bought Saturday evening. THAT took a while, because I brought it in and put it right there by the fixture that needed to be changed.) Rounded up some more cans, pitched science projects from the fridge, washed the dishes in the left-hand side of the sink. Baked brownies (mix, cooling now), because if I don't have some chocolate SOON, I'm gonna get crazy. And, since the PoS TV is gone and I finally have the other one in position to synch it, I've got my el cheapo DVD player hooked up so I can watch DVDs in my bedroom. *happy sigh* So far, I've viewed Dark Angel 2.1 and 2.2. I signed up for a digital converter box coupon---in case of inadvertant disconnection from cable, because shit happens. Oh, and I've worked on one of my fic assignments. I have two stories due in December, so I need to stay on track.

I'm still not used to how early it gets dark---daylight savings time and all---so I'm glad I took care of the fixture in the hallway, and that I have my dear little desk lamp. I've had it for a month now, and it still makes me happy when I turn it on to illuminate my office. I miss being home in the evening....

How did you wrangle a day off mid-week?

I like the change in time- getting dark at 5 'ish always reminds me of when I was a child and the holidays.

I work a 32-hour a week schedule. My days off are Sunday, Monday and Wednesday.

Ooh, that does sound like a nice productive day.

Wednesday is a crunch day for me, and I wound up putting in an hour and 10 minutes unpaid overtime. If St. Procrastination can't give me a raise next year, then I'm going to ask them to adjust my work schedule so that I actually get paid for all the time I put in. This "take unpaid comp time whenever you can manage to fit it in" is for the birds.

My company has so many n00bs fresh out of training that they're about to reschedule all the 40-hour folks down to 32 hours for a couple weeks. (It won't affect me, yay!) After T-day, though, there's going to be mandatory overtime, hooray, hooray--!

If/when you purchase a converter box, make sure to get the PASS-THROUGH type. Not all converter boxes are the same - a pass through box will bring in more channels. You'll probably also need an antenna, depending on how many tall trees there are where you live.

Oh, and those converter box coupons? Expire 90 days from the time you receive them.

I hae rabbit ears...this is just a safety precaution in case my cable gets disconnected. (Which I try very hard to avoid, since that also means my phone and internet go out, too.)

I did the same thing - got the coupons, I mean. They're actually like credit cards (not paper). I got two of them, 'cause I have two TV's. My brother found a site that sells the pass-through boxes for $40.01 each. My total for two boxes plus $6.50 shipping was $13.01.

Which is affordable, I suppose, but I resent that we're having to transition in the first place. Right now, TV is free to anyone with a set and rabbit ears and working electricity. Now we need special equipment or a paid service just to get a signal? What a scam!

Oh, I completely agree. And the kicker is, even with a converter box, you'll still only be able to receive the very basic channels - ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS and maybe a few local (within a 50 mile radius) channels. So if you want Sci-Fi or USA or TNT or TBS or F/X or anything like that, you've GOTTA have cable. :-(

It's always been like that...in my case, I'd really miss A&E, TLC and Style.
