Still alive and well

I know, I know! I've been scarce this week. I've been trying to pace myself so I can time my 2,000th post to coincide with my 4th anniversary on LJ---October 31st, next Saturday.
It hasn't exactly been a wild and crazy week. We had a couple days of gorgeous weather, and it's gone back to, if not hot, certainly warmer than I'd like. Despite that,
ang5fam and I have gone walking twice, Monday and Thursday evenings. Definitely my major accomplishment for the week....
The coming weekend: possibly a yard sale in the morning---we strolled past the sign: It's across the street from my former (next-to-last) workplace, which is completely shuttered. (Schadenfreude---yeehah, ain't it great?! Although knowing the wiles of the owners, I'm sure they've managed to make a shitpot of money out of it while screwing their workers.) Anyway, I've been to a few rummage sales there at the chapel, and nostalgia compels me.
Tomorrow evening, movie night at church, Saturday afternoon, possibly another walk with Ang, followed by canasta at Schnauzerland. Hmm, a thought: if the walking plans fall through, I might just head over to the beach early and stroll for a while before heading to S's. Here's hoping it goes better than the card party where S nodded out in the middle of the first hand.
Sunday is church, of course---followed by the advance decorating for the Full Moon Ball---which is next Friday, OMG! I've tried on the dress I want to wear for my costume, and can actually get into it---this makes me very happy! I have a ton of gel for my hair, but I'll need to attack my roots and make sure that I am uber-blonde. (I have in mind some performance art.) I'm delighted that Red is going to be there---I don't know as what, she's playing it as coy as I am---but it'll be a blast!
I got an email today from Replacements,, which tempts me sorely---except that the shipping costs more than the item! I got a stack of four of the soup bowls, because they go very elegantly with my regular tableware (Corelle Lyrics) and didn't look at them closely enough beforehand---one of the bowls has a big chip out of the rim. *sigh* Nuts! I'm just going to keep an eye out for the pattern on my travels---meanwhile, how often do I have three other people to sit down to dine with? That kind of social life is only in my dreams....
Speaking of soup, Soupy Sales died! Growing up on Staten Island, I remember his show fondly, even the musical signature of the station: "Double Ewe, Any Double Ewe, New YORK!" (That's WNEW) I'll bet he took a pie in the face from St Peter and was welcomed with happy laughter.
While autumn's Reapers may not be claiming the huge names that summer's did, it's getting its fair share of blasts from the past. I don't suppose it's a sign of the Apocalypse...?

Date: 2009-10-23 03:28 pm (UTC)I'm so jealous, hee. We actually had SNOW yesterday, though it disappeared overnight. Still, it WAS Starbaby's first snow, and positive for that reason at least! ;)

Date: 2009-10-23 06:31 pm (UTC)And hey---happy birthday, you! I have fic in progress, but I've slacked off a little after your "I'm not gonna be around much for a few days" post. My bad! Look at the bright side, it'll give you something to smile at when you're back at the Desk of Doom.

Date: 2009-10-23 10:45 pm (UTC)San Francisco cake...thank you so much. Yummy looking, too.
Fic is lovely whenever it appears and I'm looking forward to it.
ETA-My bad. The dog was "white fang," and as you said, Phyllis Diller was the one who talked about Fang. (Who for some reason I always mix up with Killer, who was Geraldine Jones' boyfriend.)

It's so lovely to have friends who GET these references. Some of my younger friends have no clue what I'm talking about half the time...had one gal at my last job, really sweet, mature for her age---but I kept forgetting how darned young she was. Like when she asked, "What's Blade Runner?" And when I told her, she pointed out that it was released about the time she was born. Arrrgh! When did middle-age set in?!

Date: 2009-10-25 04:39 am (UTC)Try this for fun. Thanks to the new TSA rules, I have to ask all my travelers for their date of birth, including the recruits. So now I know EXACTLY how young these kids are who will make more in their first year out of law school than I will in my whole life.

Date: 2009-10-25 06:15 am (UTC)Yeah, although they'll be paying off their student loans for a few years, at least. But yeah, it's fairly sickening. I've made LOW five figures every year that I've worked (sometimes four figures) and have no great expectation of any substantial increase. I work hard and I'm good at what I do---this stinks!
