One thing that can be said for last week's Ordeal By Cat, it sure helped reset my sleep cycle. I was so utterly worn-out after five days and nights of caterwaling that I conked out around 10PM Saturday night. Was up a wee bit later on Sunday, but I have subsequently managed to be in bed with lights out by midnite, and up early. (Before 7:30AM?! OMG!)

Mb came by yesterday and dropped off my walking shoes. I'd left them at her place, but what with the toe and her busy schedule, it doesn't look like we'll be walking together soon. I need to get my act together and Just Do It. (Seven weeks?! Yikes!)

I was going to give her one of my belts, because she has some jeans that are falling off her. Tried it on, and it works on me. How/when did that happen? Also, my brown belt with studded rings, last worn to the Depeche Mode concert on the next-to last hole, is a couple holes farther down. My only regret is that my Little Earth belt, gotten back when I was 340-ish, now falls off my hips completely, and there's no way to fix it.

I wonder if my "disco-ball" dress...no, too flashy for the reunion, I think. Besides, I last wore that around 30 pounds ago, it would *have* to be taken in. *smile*

Have a good day, y'all!

Have I mentioned that I detest lettuce? And yet, in the last eight days, I've probably consumed more of the stuff than in the last year or so.

What's next, exercise?

This afternoon, I dropped a couple things at the post office, then headed over to the library. I parked, and took a walk around the block. It was a gorgeous day for it: Temps in the high 60s, sunny and breezy enough to flutter the flags on the flagpoles.

I noticed that there *IS* still a "For Sale by Owner" sign on a certain house I've been eyeing for a while now, and made a note of the number. (I may call, just for grins and giggles, to find out how much it is.) I stood there for a moment, looking at it and subtracting some of the landscaping---that tree can go, that one needs pruned, definitely paint it something other than stark white...I wonder if it's two bedrooms or three, and how many baths. It's purely fantasy, unless I were to win the lottery, but oh, the location! Library in the backyard and a view of the river from the front. Bliss!

Resumed walking, up the next side-street, down Forrest, and back into the library lot, where I collected my tote of incoming books from my trunk. Returned said books and browsed; in the process, I bumped into CapeGypsy, who said the weather is supposed to get colder overnight, and she wanted a book to curl up with.

I got four, two fic and two non-fic: the lastest Hester Browne, Finishing Touches, a mystery, The Big 5-Oh, Right-size Your Life (an organizing book, hope springs eternal) and a book on knotwork jewelery (now that the sofa is accessable again...).

I'm enjoying Finishing Touches very much so far, but I've enjoyed her previous books, too. The heroine's dad in the Little Lady Agency series reminds me quite a lot of Jools Siviter, and the conclusion of book three made me cheer.

Have had some popcorn but no proper dinner yet. Was also delightfully diverted by a nearly two-hour chat with [livejournal.com profile] foreverhermit, who I'm sure is going to have an interesting story to share on Monday. Meanwhile, we conversed about traveling and exes and pets and stuff. Of the few times I've talked to or met members of my f'list, it's never been as awkward as I'm afraid it would be; I tend to think of myself as best on paper, but apparently my raw personality reflects *some* of my scripted savoir-faire.

I think I'm going to scrounge up some food; the rest of last night's turkey has been calling me.

I've been busy in the kitchen...got some breakfast sausages at the food pantry, which I've cooked up (so they'll last another couple of days) and stuck in the fridge. While the stovetop and skillet were already hot, I started a bag of rice.

I'll have enough rice for days---which is just fine with me, since I got assorted frozen veggies they can accompany. I really am trying to eat better! I think I've had more green stuff in the last week than I have in the last couple months. I have to push myself, is all.

Of course, I also have to work my way through all the canned stuff in my pantry.

It would be nice if I could get motivated enough to do some walking. Especially since the weather is lovely at the moment.

Have had a few sporradic spasms of cleaning, but hardly enough to make a difference---although I *can* get to the couch again.

I know, I know! I've been scarce this week. I've been trying to pace myself so I can time my 2,000th post to coincide with my 4th anniversary on LJ---October 31st, next Saturday.

It hasn't exactly been a wild and crazy week. We had a couple days of gorgeous weather, and it's gone back to, if not hot, certainly warmer than I'd like. Despite that, [livejournal.com profile] ang5fam and I have gone walking twice, Monday and Thursday evenings. Definitely my major accomplishment for the week....

The coming weekend: possibly a yard sale in the morning---we strolled past the sign: It's across the street from my former (next-to-last) workplace, which is completely shuttered. (Schadenfreude---yeehah, ain't it great?! Although knowing the wiles of the owners, I'm sure they've managed to make a shitpot of money out of it while screwing their workers.) Anyway, I've been to a few rummage sales there at the chapel, and nostalgia compels me.

Tomorrow evening, movie night at church, Saturday afternoon, possibly another walk with Ang, followed by canasta at Schnauzerland. Hmm, a thought: if the walking plans fall through, I might just head over to the beach early and stroll for a while before heading to S's. Here's hoping it goes better than the card party where S nodded out in the middle of the first hand.

Sunday is church, of course---followed by the advance decorating for the Full Moon Ball---which is next Friday, OMG! I've tried on the dress I want to wear for my costume, and can actually get into it---this makes me very happy! I have a ton of gel for my hair, but I'll need to attack my roots and make sure that I am uber-blonde. (I have in mind some performance art.) I'm delighted that Red is going to be there---I don't know as what, she's playing it as coy as I am---but it'll be a blast!

I got an email today from Replacements,, which tempts me sorely---except that the shipping costs more than the item! I got a stack of four of the soup bowls, because they go very elegantly with my regular tableware (Corelle Lyrics) and didn't look at them closely enough beforehand---one of the bowls has a big chip out of the rim. *sigh* Nuts! I'm just going to keep an eye out for the pattern on my travels---meanwhile, how often do I have three other people to sit down to dine with? That kind of social life is only in my dreams....

Speaking of soup, Soupy Sales died! Growing up on Staten Island, I remember his show fondly, even the musical signature of the station: "Double Ewe, Any Double Ewe, New YORK!" (That's WNEW) I'll bet he took a pie in the face from St Peter and was welcomed with happy laughter.

While autumn's Reapers may not be claiming the huge names that summer's did, it's getting its fair share of blasts from the past. I don't suppose it's a sign of the Apocalypse...?

The weather has warmed back up---not quite as bad as it was a couple weeks ago, but not nearly as nice as it was over the weekend. We ended up calling off yesterday's walk for the icky raininess---today is in question as well. We'll see....

I'm reeling from recent developments on CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds. In the case of the first show, I'll miss the individual in question. In the case of the second, I didn't see it coming, but in light of recent events, it makes a certain amount of sense. It'll be interesting to see how this changes the team's interactions. (I'm not going into details because I'm not in the mood to fiddle with a cut and I'm in even less of a mood to have anyone pissing in my ear about spoilers. Oh, wait---that's LJ. Same principle applies here though.)

Another thing about CSI: Miami---what happened to Kyle? He's completely disappeared this season! I thought he had a job in the morgue! Where'd he go? *whines* He's such a cute little puppy!---I cougar him something rotten, in case you can't tell.

I got another rec for A Feast for Two at the Turquoise Dragon which has generated three more comments. Woohoo! It was fun to write, but I didn't expect quite this much of a response for it. I stumbled into an unexpected gap in canon that fandom would like to see filled. (Which sounds kinda dirty, but that could be too many years in fandom talking....)

I'm in a fairly mediocre mood, if you couldn't tell....

My hips were a little sore this morning, but that's the only after-effect I noticed from yesterday's exercise. So hopefully, we can manage a little more tomorrow. Or Saturday.

A few more try-ons today: the dress I want to wear as part of my Full Moon Ball ensemble. I've had it for...at least a year, and while it's snug, it's wearable. Or I could wear my dress from the wedding, just tart it up a little.... Rhinestones...I need a bunch of rhinestones.

The other thing I pulled on was my black faux-fur trimmed winter coat, which dates back to the Salvation Army store on the west side of Orlando circa '99---I think. I'm pretty sure it was around then...I *know* I was with HWSNBN, because I had to borrow the $15 from him and he was very diligent about getting it back. I don't *think* we were shacked up at the time, which would've meant '99.

It's a very dramatic sort of coat, not sure if it's retro, or just old, but either way, it's very nice quality. Which is why I HAD to borrow the money, since there was another chick who was ready to snap it up if I didn't make the purchase then and there. It's black wool---at least, I think it's wool---with a detachable black faux-fur collar and faux-fur trimming the bottom of the sleeves---except they aren't so much sleeves as they are raglan capes. Not much use on a windy day, but oh my, they give the coat the look of something from a Currier & Ives print. Or, if worn with my black faux-fur pillbox, the darling of the Romanovs.... Yes, my clothes help me live a double life!

Anyway, I got said coat, and wore it happily that winter, and haven't really been able to get into it since. Until now. Granted, I didn't have much to speak of on under it, but I hope that by the time we get to serious "real coat in Florida" weather this winter, that I'll have shaved off a few more pounds/inches. I'd like it to fit well, not just hold my breath and button up. I know the difference, it's just that the coat was cool enough for me to disregard it. I've been known to do that, surprise, surprise....

That's another thing: I really OUGHT to get my measurements taken---it's been a couple of years. I think it was something along the lines of 56-51-74 (VERY pear-shaped!), but that was circa 340-350.

'Night, all....
vanillafluffy: (Florida oranges)
Went walking with Ang this evening--a half-hour strolling around the village---the weather was lovely, the company was good. We're planning to do it again Wednesday evening---walk downtown---then, on Saturday, I'm going to introduce her to a trail I know. It should be fun---I'm just dreading the time change, when it'll be getting dark by 5:30.

Got to wear my Chocolate Souffle shirt, which has been languishing in my closet for many months because it's been too danged hot to wear 3/4 sleeves. Please, please, let this glorious weather last!

Sat through Heroes and Trauma. The former had me mildly paralyzed---OMG, Zach Quinto in a plaid shirt and jeans! Can you hit my kinks ANY harder?! (No, that's not a spoiler---it's a warning for folks with weak hearts!) And during Trauma, I combined lusting after Rabbit with a little diy, namely opening a very squashed pillow, pulling the stuffing out and shredding it back to fluffiness and sewing it back up. I'm hoping it'll work well enough to save me $8 on a new one.

Have finally found a beta for my Come As You're Not fic---woohoo! It's A) a fandom I haven't written in before and B) schmoop, which is also not my thing. Okay, it's schmoop for me. It may turn out to be like my version of crack!fic, where I have people nodding like zombies and agreeing that of course Bobby is God, it makes perfect sense. (Should I be selling used cars, do you think?)
vanillafluffy: (all about fluff)
I squee'd rather loudly a little while ago---I found an old** pair of jeans that's been MIA. I'd reluctantly come to accept that I MUST have purged them during one of my closet cleansings of the last couple years. They weren't where I remembered them being, but it's them, all right---size 28 Venezia stretch jeans. (Mind you, although I can get them ON, they don't actually FIT. Sitting is NOT an option.) Dark blue, denim-spandex blend, somewhat more snug than skin-tight....

However, when I consider my all-time highest weight, which was 50-something pounds more than what I currently weigh now, I'm encouraged. 'Cause, there were a few years there where I could not possibly have gotten into them at all, and didn't believe that I ever would again. I got rid of a lot of stuff around that time, some of which I dearly miss now, like a certain black knit skirt. The jeans were tucked away in a drawer, though, and didn't get recycled...and although they're tight, especially against my calves, they ARE long, and I'd like to be able to wear them.

There's also the matter of my other closet. In my hall bedroom, I have a closet filled with 22/24 clothes. Okay, maybe not filled, but I've got a nice little collection of outfits suitable for work or church, courtesy of my ex-'s mom (who raided a plus-size yard sale once upon a time and got me a stack of stuff---I passed most of it along during closet flings, because even then it was too small, but I kept a few things that I loved and couldn't bear to part with).

It would be so nice to wear some of that stuff. I've had it since...'03, if memory serves me. There are two perfectly sweet white cotton dresses that would be adorable summertime outfits, a tidy blue knit, an autumnal paisley suit, and a few other things. This prospect is a dual-edged sword, however, because for the first time in my life, I actually have a selection of clothes that suits me and my life and fits me as I am. I seem to have stabilized where I am right now, give or take about ten pounds.

On the other hand, being a 22/24 again would give me a LOT more fashion options, although like I said, my current wardrobe generally makes me happy. I could use a few pairs of pants that are long enough and not black, for instance. I can't make up my mind---should I give up on that closetful of stuff, which I may or may not ever wear?

I know I *should* exercise more than I do (because I don't, really, and haven't in a few years), and that doing that gets better results than dieting. I've been at that since I was 12, and enough already! I'm trying to eat more sanely, although moderation isn't something I'm good at....

=============
** Well over 10 years old. I got them at the LB that used to be in the Merritt Island mall, and that closed in '99---and I'd had them for a few years even then.
