1928 - 2010

Country singer and sausage king Jimmy Dean has gone to the great breakfast table in the sky at age 81. Why am I noting his passing? Well, in addition to writing "Big Bad John"---an old favorite of mine---and making a darn fine pork product, he was almost extended family.

Well, that's if I believe J's grandmother's old stories about how he proposed to her way back when. Who knows, they may be having a torrid reunion in the hereafter.

I wonder if his stone will read, "Here lies a big, big man."...? (Or if they'll go with the original version.)

Indeed it is a damn fine pork product, although the current TV commercial with those people wearing the planets is quite strange. :)

He also wrote a country gospel song (don't know the exact title) about "my cup's running over and the saucer's filling up" that made half my adult Sunday school class cry they first time they heard it.

That's funny about the almost-connection to fame. I wonder how Grandma felt later about passing up such a fine catch? :D

The lady was married four times (2nd and 4th husband was the same guy!), and she said more than once while she was struggling to make ends meet that she would've been a rich woman, but he'd loved...whichever husband it was at the time.

You're right, those are some peculiar commercials.

what drives me nuts about that commercial is the planets are all on the same orbit. Fail. (I'm sure Jimmy had nothing to do with that dumbness.)
