I finally got to see "True Grit" yesterday and thought it quite excellent. That young lady deserves an Oscar, and Jeff Bridges---well, I've only loved him for about 30 years.

Really good. Exquisite dialog with a precision of language that just blew me away. Kind of reminded me of Boyd Crowder, which is one of the things I love about him.

(Per Amazon, my season one of Justified has shipped---they had it at half-price, $19.99, so I preordered it a while back and am glad I did.)

One reason to carry a large purse---able to fit a bottle of soda, sandwich and a bag of York peppermint patties, thus negating the truly outrageous movie theater prices. $5 for a soda?! I don't freakin' think so!

LOL! I really want to see that movie!

Woohoo! Only a few weeks until Justified. Are you ready?!

I am quivering with anticipation. Even the spoilers I've found only make me want it more.

I literally have not bought movie theater candy since the Carter administration. I always sneak candy in my purse and if I'm going to a "big event" sort of movie w/ a lot of my friends I bring a lot of really good candy to pass around, (for example, I went to all three Lord of the Rings movies on opening day with a lot of my fantasy-loving friends and I brought vanilla fudge and a bunch of See's chocolate)

Uh-huh. Big purses rule. I'm just annoyed that the very nice candy store at my local mall closed down, so no more quick detours for Jelly Bellies and raspberry jelly rings.

The snacks often cost more than the price of admission!

Which is why I bring my own. I flatly refuse to pay $5 for a soda when I could get two cartons of the stuff for LESS than that at Aldi.

I don't think I've actually BEEN to a movie theater since the Carter administration, come to think of it!

Really? Wow. I like to see things on a BIG screen, but OMG, the prices. That's why I really miss The Pines Theater and Drafthouse. That was the perfect compromise, and the food prices weren't horrendous.

Nothing turns me into "cranky old lady" faster than seeing the movie and concession prices these days. I will segue into my "when I was a kid you could get the movie, popcorn, soda AND raisinettes for ten bucks" spiel every single time.

I know, right? I remember $1.25 matinees in high school---and that was at the first-run AMC multiplex. I also had a theater/drafthouse place that was a scant mile from home. When they finally closed down in the early 90s, their regular tickets were $2 and the Sunday matinee was 99 cents. Eight dollars for a weekday matinee? Highway robbery, and that's before the food rant kicks in. *eyeroll*

I remember standing on a line outside a theater and looking down at me ticket and realizing it was $8.00, so it must have been a few years back and having a major freak-out.

My brother came down for a visit and took me to see "Young Sherlock Holmes", and commented that the to-me-scandalous $7 evening ticket price was much better than the $10 he would've paid for a first-run movie in New York. I was horrified, and still am.

It was a great movie, wasn't it? I loved the dialogue. I understand that the book is written like that; now I'm eager to read it. (I didn't even realize there was a book till recently.) I liked this version better than the John Wayne, though Irish liked the John Wayne better - not surprising!

I read the book about a million years ago (high school-ish) and will have to look it up again.

I've never been much of a John Wayne fan. Eastwood is my main cowboy! Although these days, I'll take my westerns where I can get them!
