Today is the last day of my payment extension from my net/cable/phone provider. When they don't get any money from me today, I may or may not get a few days grace*, but I'm not holding my breath. So, if I suddenly drop off the face of the world, don't answer emails, etc., that's why.

Let me just say, I'm freaking right on out. The idea of NO INTERNET ON DEMAND is terrifying. I ought to be worrying about what's going to happen the next time I get a bill for lights or water, or what I'm going to do next month when my insurance is due---but at the moment, the thought of no access to my cyberfriends and no cable TV...wretched banal existance!

Please don't forget me, I'll post for as long as I can, and I'll find wifi hot spots so I can check in, but summer is fixing to go from "hot as hell" to just plain Hell.

Positive note: library has A/C. Should help with the Hell feeling...
cable companies should be shot for what they charge. We have very little services and it's still nearly $100 per month. It will be the first thing to go if times get any tougher.

What gets me is that I've called Bright House and asked about dropping features and they claim it'll cost me MORE than I'm paying now..

If you signed up with a package deal, that is quite possible. Keep an eye out for ads from the competition. They sometimes offer great deals for new customers.

I don't know if you qualify, but most power & phone companies have special rates for those with low incomes, on disability, or who have certain medical conditions. It's worth checking out. If you can't find info online, try the local welfare office or library.

Here's the trouble: The account for the electric is in my dad's name. My dad's been dead since 1985. In order to change it into my name, they want a deposit that would choke an elephant. So it's stayed in my name, but I can't get help because I'm not the one on the account. Catch-22'R'Us....

Huge thanks. Right now, I'm going to see how long it takes to hit my bank. At that point, I'll make some tough decisions about what needs paid most. (Cable is important, but less so than basics like water and electric.) You're a life saver!

Yeah, the timing is off, but hey, better late than never, eh? If worse comes to worse, I figure I can rustle up a new 'net provider for a lot less than what I owe the current one.

Or who knows, maybe I'll heard back on a resume or application and get a job. Then I'll know where the next payment is coming from and things can get back to NORMAL.

No worries - for once I'm in a position to be able to help *G* I had a rough patch a few years ago where my electricity and gas would run out (the beauty of pay as you go meters) before the end of the month - which is OK in summer but grim in winter!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed things start to look up for you soon.
