Didn't make it to the food bank this morning, but I *did* get four bags of trash to the curb (they were pre-bagged, just awaiting tomorrow's trash day) before running off with Mb for a day of errands. The bad news: I didn't get to a phone during business hours to call the code officer about my yard.* The good news: Mb treated me to lunch at the Chinese buffet in Melbourne. Gingery bean sprouts, nom-nom-nom!

Was surprised, when I got back to her place to check my email, to find a gift story awaiting me: sithwitch13 fulfilled my request for an Equilibrium fic of an AU nature. (I suspect [livejournal.com profile] kukkurkurat just went galloping off to read it). I'm a huge Sean Bean fan, so I asked for something that focused on his character.

Finally got to see Friday's SPN. I'm enjoying this season more than I have in a couple years. Because I'm such a geekling, I actually know who Lemmy is; there ARE some brain cells that survived my 20s!

========================================

* Although, come to think of it, it was Columbus Day, so they were probably closed anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] strangevisitor7 has given me WORDS (which will be the third time I've done this one): Shoes, crack, silly, Plum, Partridge

Shoes -- Sadly, big feet are something I inherited from my Dad's side of the family along with height and blonde hair. By the time I was 8 years old, my feet were bigger than my mother's. So buying shoes is usually an unhappy experience, since it's really difficult to find cool shoes in a size 11 or 12 (depending on how wide or pointy they are). But I keep trying! My problem is, I'm very hard on shoes. I've had several pairs of sweet little mary janes that the straps popped on...heart-breaking, especially the zebra-striped pair. Or the silver ones.

Crack -- Here's the thing: I write what I consider crack, and when I post it, I'm astounded when people take it seriously. What do you mean, that's NOT crack?! Of course it is! I wrote it, I should know. Lucifer Unleash'd being a prime example. It's totally tongue-in-cheek, and I've have people going, 'Uh-huh, should be canon.' WTF, people?!

Silly -- Silly rabbi, kicks are for Trids.... I amuse myself with all kinds of silliness. I wish I could do computer animation; I'd love to do some of them as short-short features. (Right now I'm sleep-deprived and can't think of any to illustrate the point, sorry.)

Plum -- I'm exceptional; I started reading Stephanie Plum from the very beginning, *before* it made it to the NYT best-seller lists---One for the Money, which I borrowed from the library back when it first came out (late 80s, early 90s) and howled my way through it. I have an idea for a Plum-the-next-generation story, which I may write one of these days. Or not. I've written Plum fanfic, and found it fairly easy; Evanovich and I have a similar sense of humor.

Partridge -- No, not the Partridge Family (although my mind boggled when I found out that Katie Cassidy was David's daughter---geez, do I feel OLD), Errol Partridge, yummy Cleric of the Tetragrammaton from Equilibrium. (See icon. Sean Bean--my, my, that man is FINE.) I have a sequel of sorts---actually an idea for deleted scenes from the movie to try to make sense of some of the plot holes. Charlotte, Errol's daughter, plans vengeance against John Preston for her father's death...except that Preston undergoes a metamorphasis during the course of the movie and things don't work out that way. (Yes, I have written and posted Errol fic. And it's a complete stand-alone story that will make sense to anyone who's seen the movie.)

This morning, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. I did it three years ago, but the last couple of years, I was just NOT up for it. Missed the sign-up deadline last year, and the year before I'd just started my job and was going in six different directions without taking on anything else.

I didn't volunteer for anything I didn't think I could nail. In the case of movies, they were things that I own on DVD or VHS and could watch to renew my memory, or books, ditto. More books than movies, actually.
_________________

What I requested, in case my Yuletide Santa drops by for hints:

Fandom 1: Devour I'd like to see Jake clear his name (or try to---at least get him out of jail!), with the help of Ivan Reisz. (Because William Sadler was woefully underused in that role.) And for all the SPN devotees who've signed up, I could totally see Reisz becoming a hunter after Anne's "death". Kudos if there's father-son bonding, NON-smut.

Fandom 2: Equilibrium There are so many pretty men in this fandom, and I've lusted after Sean Bean forfreakingever. Could we NOT kill off Errol in this version? Maybe have him working behind the scenes with the Underground/Jurgen? Slash or not, as you like (I think getting John laid without Prozium would help his disposition enormously).

Fandom 3: Marion Zimmer Bradley - The Catch Trap I love this book for a lot of things: the circus background, the big Italian family with a wealth of wonderfully realized, complex characters, the mid-century ambiance...plus a couple of hot guys sexing each other. Hurt-comfort, please, and some detailed slash. Maybe after the end of the book, a look at the new dynamic between Tom and Matt? Or, if you're not a slasher, something that looks at one or more of those other elements.

Fandom 4: Anne McCaffrey - Dragonriders of Pern There's such a big gap between "Dragonsinger" and "Dragondrums". I'd love to see more of Menolly gaining confidence as a journeyman, maybe visiting Half-Circle Sea Hold for a festival or wedding and surprising her parents with her new status. Or filling in temporarily for Elgion---how would she react if they tried to push her around and give her non-Harper duties? In the Harper Hall books, I like Robinton, Sebell, Piemur (and Mirrim, but they only let you pick four), but in supporting parts. I really want something Menolly-centric.
_______________

As you can see, it's half slash and half gen/could-be-het. And heaven only knows what I'll end up writing, but I'm having fun looking at my list of offerings and thinking about what I might do in the event I get a particular fandom or pairing.

Let the games begin!

I was reading a news article earlier that alluded to "Easter, 1916", and as every writer knows, the oddest things can trigger ideas. (In this case, the juxtaposition of Yeats, the Irish rebellion and the circumstances present in the Equilibrium fandom.) Yes, I know I said I wasn't going to post anything until I'd completed "It Takes One". However, this is Easter-specific, or the literary reference is. Tra-la!

This morning, I parked my rump on my chair and transcribed "Fortune Cookie" from my notes from start to finish. Which is not to say it's *done*--no, I'll undoubtedly spend a week tweaking it--but all 1600 words are at least in electronic format and backed up.

I also uploaded a chunk of "It Takes One" and got a couple more installments lined up. The end is in sight, albeit creeping lethargically toward me like a constipated, geriatric snail on Quaaludes. I will finish it, I will! (I'd better--it's getting huge hits!)

There's a certain amount of carrot-and-stick at work--I've told myself sternly that I am NOT uploading ANYTHING ELSE until I've completed "It Takes One". This inspires a certain amount of concentration, since I've got numerous projects ready to go up. There's the xXx story (Set after State of the Union), two Batman Begins fics...okay, that's three. And there are several things in the works, like the crack-smoking slash crossover between xXx and National Treasure, the Equilibrium fic that won't leave me alone, and come to think of it, I never *did* get around to posting "Second Chances" on ff.net. (Possibly because I haven't felt like tacking the rewrite on that last chapter.)

Okay, enough screwing around--back to work!

Took the boots back after work and got some nice sandals. It's Florida; sandals are practical ten months out of the year (and the other two months consist of a few days at a time between November and April).

Dragged "It Takes One to Know One" out, worked on inputing the hand-written stuff I have and posted a segment on ff.net. It's getting there. Slowly.

Meanwhile, the Equilibrium fic is coming along nicely. Got eight (steno) pages done today alone *and* I've come up with the title: "Father's Justice"...which has meaning on multiple levels, in that fandom.

So many ideas, so little time....

Another all-too-brief weekend concludes. Damned little to report, except that the zip on the @#$%ing boots broke, so I'll be taking them back to Payless with fire in my eye.

Watched Equilibrium again with director's commentary on...I'm noticing a lamentable tendency on the part of directors who write their own material to be better at directing than writing...at least in the genre I'm most partial to. Believe it or not, some of us action fans really *do* expect a plot.

Why, oh why, do I fall in love with these flawed pictures that demand to be fixed?! (I'm counting Desperado/OUaTiM in this category; Robert Rodriguez is a genius director, but I think he tends to skimp on writing so he can get to the parts he likes: filming and editing.) Equilibrium is riddled with such little annoyances; it zips from scene to scene, gives scant clue as to whether it's the same day as the previous scene, the next day, or week...

I want to know *where*, exactly Wimmer thinks Preston had the puppy stashed while his apartment was being searched. While the cityscape is blowing up after Dupont's death, Preston's daughter is shown with the dog, so where was he in the time between the shooting in the Nether and the end? This is the kind of gonzo plothole that makes me go nuts. (Yes, like the underground room in The Pacifier....)

Obviously, in my 'verse, Charlotte was keeping puppy, but the scriptwriter is supposed to think of these things!!! *eyeroll*

No, I haven't actually written anything this weekend, but I have been thinking...entirely too much!

I'm not quite done with the first part of my Equilibrium deleted scenes, but today I scrawled a hasty Part Two. (The kids, and what really happens after breakfast... I like those kids.) I've got to finish refining Part One, which introduces Charlotte. (Believe me, Charlotte was *not* my idea, daft as that sounds. I bloody channeled it from somewhere...and no, it wasn't National Treasure. I tried other two-syllable name, but Charlotte was determined to stick.)

Tried a sample of that Body Shop fragrance [livejournal.com profile] missybrat's been lauding--Satsuma--personally, I think it smells like a Dreamsicle--which I happen to like. Now all I have to do is get some pre-orders and corral a few friends into joining the party. (Which reminds me, Kat was interested in the catalog, and I have to arrange to retrieve that chair this weekend.) Note to self, call Kat tomorrow.

Next weekend is the Chris Penczak event at the church...three days worth of workshops...so I'd better get a lot done this weekend, since I sure won't then. Plus there's the craft fair the following week, and I still don't know what's going on with that.

I live in interesting times....

Slept until 8AM, woke and contemplated the CSC for a while. Got up and had a gigantic breakfast and gathered up all bags of cans and as may strays as I could and took them down to the recycling center. Huzzah! I've been putting that off for weeks. It netted a little over $11, at 42 cents per pound, which tells you that I've consumed an awful lot of soda in the last few months.

Had it spent before I even got home: picked up supplies to take care of my roots--LONG overdue, I last touched them up on my birthday (part of B's home spa treatment!), which is 9 September... Treated myself to a 99 cent nail file that's supposedly chocolate-scented--manicure scheduled for later! Picked up eggs, bread and...more soda.

Stopped by the pawn shop that I had to pass on the way home, and found a DVD of "Equilibrium"--now I can beta [livejournal.com profile] kukkurkurat's latest opus. I feel guilty that I've put it off for so long, but it's really difficult to make suggestions on something if you're unfamiliar with canon.

Came home and very sensibly did *not* stick it in the DVD right away. Instead, I got a trash bag of crap out of the office and another one out of my room. You'd think with all this talk of bags and bags of trash that it'd be looking great, right? It's much improved, but there's still a long way to go. It didn't happen overnight, it's not going to be Martha Stewart in a week--or even a month--but I'm telling myself that as long as I make progress and take out more than I bring in, *eventually* it's going to be neat and orderly.

B's invited me over for dinner--lasagna!--and another session of touch-up. Maybe when we're through, I can coax her into taking some pix with her camera phone so I can show off my new glasses.... (Assuming, of course, that I can figure out how to attach pix and hide them properly!)
