vanillafluffy: (Friends help)
Today was the good kind of quiet. I played hooky from church and drifted. Spent some time on the phone---yay, phone! Kat is going to call me in the morning so I can take her out for a Belated Mother's Day lunch, S and I chatted for a bit before she went over to her in-laws for dinner, and I spent about an hour and a half on the phone with B, which was great.

She and I have come up with Plan B. (Plan A fizzled when work wouldn't give me Saturdays off.) Better a little time than no time, so we're going to try to get together Friday mornings to assist each other with domestic chores. Next Friday, I'm going to help her take up water-damaged carpeting in her middle bedroom. Either this Wednesday evening or the following one, she's going to drop by after work and do a walk through so we can try to prioritize the first thing to do around here.

I enjoyed the luxury of a late afternoon nap, which I rarely get to do, and later did that evil sinkful of dishes I'd been putting off. (I have to replace those two divided pieces of Rubbermaid, which I couldn't even bear to take the lids off of.) While that was in progress, I boiled the water for tortellini. I fixed most of a bag of cheese tortellini, which got me five new Rubbermaid containers full, topped with canned sauce, and enough over for dinner. That will give me something to grab and run with to work as well as lunches or fast meals on my days off. And I'm paid again on Friday, so I'm set.

Have also done a little fic-tinkering. Posted a drabble for Jericho over on ff.net, fixed the obvious typos on Reconciliation, and done a little pecking on and a lot of thinking about Nature Versus Nurture, an SPN fic that's so AU that canon is irrelevant. ([livejournal.com profile] starhawk2005 knows which one I mean!)

It's grumbling thunder outside, and has been all evening, but no rain as yet.
vanillafluffy: (Phone ringing)
I have a phone--a real, live phone in my house, so I no longer have to go running all over town to place a simple call. It's been about a year since my old number was disconnected. I had a couple unsatisfactory PAYGo experiences, and finally sucked it up and got plugged in through my cable/internet provider.

This means I can stay in touch with my friends, order pizza from the great place down the road that ISN'T an on-line chain, do comparison shopping, call out from work if I have to---in short, take care of business as usual, without having to resort to strategies like letting myself into the office at church (I have a key, and as long as it's only local calls, no one minds.) or using the pay phone back in what used to be the layaway department at the local Wal*Mart. The latter is the only pay phone that I know of that is a) available 24/7, b) quiet, as in, no traffic noises in the background, and c) also has a place to sit down.

The guy from the cable company was cute, albeit in a way-too-young-for-me kind of way. He didn't say anything about what a horror this place is, got me hooked up in less than an hour, and gives me hope for the future of the world. (Okay, so I'm really happy to have a phone.) What the hell, I tipped him $5. I don't know if one is supposed to tip service technicians that way and maybe I've just been oblivious all this time, but really. Phone. Happy. SO worth it.

Although most of the house is still a pit, I got a wild hair and got medieval on the kitchen. Took out the trash, created *another* whole bag of trash, consolidated a couple deposits of cans, cleared off the stove and countertop (the sink is still full), but huzzah, there's room to cook! And, I found a carton of strawberry Whoppers that I *knew* I'd bought before Easter, but they'd disappeared in the rubble.

I think maybe I'll have pizza for dinner---I can't remember the last time I had fresh pizza; not this year, at least---watch Jericho and Criminal Minds and go to bed EARLY, because tomorrow I have to be AT WORK at 12:15 for Trendicrap training.

Smoochies!
