I'm on my way to work to find out whether or not I still have a job. Cranberry red shirt, black and white polka-dot skirt, sequinned ruby slippers. Colorful and brave, at least that's the idea.

I'm at the library, and I need to hit the road like, now, so I don't have time to answer any of y'all's encouraging emails. Thanks.

Wish me luck.

I'm getting this at 2:45PM and you probably already know the decision, but crossing my fingers (and thinking good thoughts) for you anyway....

They like to torture me. (We all knew that, right?) Anyway, I STILL don't know, supposedly the Powers-That-Be will have a decision tomorrow. I'm trying to maintain calm in the face of it all, and my mantra is, "Hey, at least I get paid for Tuesday!"

That's a Good Thing, since on Tuesday, my muffler tried to fall off after I left the library. I managed to get it wired back up and was only 15 minutes late, but it stressed me more than I needed to be.

AAARRRGGGHHH! In the immortal words of Tom Petty: the waiting is the hardest part.

And I'm right there with ya re: car problems. My 'new' Ford Probe is going through antifreeze. Only a quart a month or so (slow leak) but still... Since there's no puddles to be seen, that can only mean one of two possibilities: a bad head gasket or a cracked block.

Yeah, like I have money for THAT right now, when I'm trying to find an apartment!

Which is why it astounds me that GM is having problems, because Ford's cars are such CRAP. (I'd take one as a gift, but I'd immediately start scheming to trade it in for almost anything...IMO, Ford hasn't built a really decent car in about 30 years.)

This seems oddly appropriate: (I have no idea where I ran across it; I'm as much of a packrat online as I am IRL.)

Prayer on a Morning My Car Wouldn't Start

I sit behind the wheel
And finger the keys like a rosary.
Surely there is some prayer
That can move pistons.
If spirits slaughter germs,
Or bring about a sudden burst
Of hope or courage, even love,
Why not something simple, something
Closer to expedience? Why not dispatch
One lonely angel to caress my carburetor,
Fix my fanbelt, or unclog my fuel line,
Just one greasy-winged mechanic,
Inept at saving souls, but damned
Good at getting me on my way.

Exactly. When I try to protest that surely SALES are what drive the facility, I'm told that we are required to answer calls within a certain length of time and cannot have more than a certain percentage of hang-ups, or we're in breach of contract with our partners and can owe them money and/or they can leave. Mind you, if they weren't so quick to let people go, we'd have the coverage, but god forbid they have to pay a few more people. In what Universe does it make sense to get rid of someone experienced in order to hire someone who doesn't know what they're doing and will take longer? With no guarantee that they'll achieve the level of sales I do? Idjits.

That is TRULY retarded. (Apologies for the not-PC terminology, but this situation is certainly deserving of it)!
